Nationalists all love their country to a greater or lesser degree and they want their country to do well, but, nationalism is considered an immature political philosophy because it does not develop further then that. Unlike say socialism, communism, or fascism there is not an over riding plan for how society should be ordered.
But nationalism is not a political philosophy. For the purposes of this debate it is interchangeable with patriotism though there are some cosmetic differences. Fascism is what happens when nationalism enters politics, and as you have correctly stated it leans towards socialism. Hence, nationalism when applied leads to national socialism. Nazism.

You seem to take nationalism to be a political philosophy, it is not. It is rather like saying "fear" (an appropriate example) is a political philosophy, whereas fear, applied, is popularism or democracy. That of course takes advantage of nationalism too... hence in times of perceived crisis fascism rises quickly through democracy.

Patriotism is a love of one's country.
Nationalism is a love of one's country to the detriment of other countries.

            IW... great distinction

It's rather like the difference between "dumb" and "stupid" (respectively).

You said something like "elijah says conversatives are stupid" whereas my argument was that stupid people tend to be conservative. Penguins and birds. While being conservative doesn't mean you have to be stupid, indeed there are very intelligent conservatives (I use the word in the traditional, nationalistic sense, not fiscal), if you're stupid you're probably conservative. You misrespresented my argument, and as a result when I arrived on the thread there was an argument going on between those who thought you had represented me truthfully and those that actually understood what I had said.

I believe you are the one who accussed me of using a straw man but is unable to find even one example.

There's an quote that goes, "While it's not true that most conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative." I believe it was Mill who said it.

That's in Whaleboy's sig, Che. Which is what he's been talking about for a while now.

When he can take a break from calling our country facist, I mean.
