Edinburgh is one of those small, but culturally intense cities that pepper Europe, like Florence, Prague or York.
Obviously, it's the best of the bunch. The Grand Theft Auto games are made here. And the Harry Potter books are written here. That's some serious culture points.

I've spent a lot of time in Fredrikstad, Norway, which has a beautiful Old Town. Built by king Fredrik (duh) in 1567, it is Scandinavia's oldest and best preserved fortified town.
