my city ended up second on the list for a new major league team. But in all honesty, I think they were just giving us lip service. I seriously doubt they have any intention of giving us a major league team. I still think we are too small. Our damn mayor is so intent in turning us into a "real" big city. I hate that. I miss the small city.

Well, Las Vegas is an entertainment town, and baseball is entertainment. However, why would a tourist go to a ballgame when everybody goes to Las Vegas for the Casinos?

Eventually, they need to give a couple of team to Mexican cities. Mexico City has 17 million people. Baja California is big too.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

          Small Cities

If they had a team in Vegas, they would have to have interactive betting terminals at every sit.

+/- on the next pitch speed.
Odds on whether the batter would get a hit/walk/k/ground out. That would be sweet. You would need some damn good handicappers on that. Of course MLB would never go for it.

the nascar races are a big hit though. But there's a major difference. There's only one nascar race a year. Not 152 baseball games (half of which are at home). Tourists flock to town to catch the nascar race. But just to watch another regular old baseball game? I can't see it.

we have a minor league team (parent team is the dodgers). and an outdoor ballpark too . Many games are night games (though they start when its still light out). This allows you at least touch the metal seats. But it's still 100 degrees at night. Needless to say, bringing a towel is a necessity to put on the metal benches. I've only seen a few games- during the 4th of july game where they have a fireworks display after the game. I have never really gotten into seeing other games. who cares about baseball

As for not sticking with your home town team, I hardly follow the Mets anymore. I cant conveniently go to a game, and they havent done anything interesting in years - they dont win, but they arent pathetic heartbreakers like certain other times either. And they tend to be not well covered even by NY media, fixated on the hated Yankees. So ive become an Orioles fan. OTOH, with an NL team in DC, it would be a chance to see the Mets again, and I just might go back to rooting for them.

You'd have to build a domed stadium in Vegas. Although I suppose Phoenix gets just as hot, and they play in an open air park.

...actually, the BOB has a retractable roof. So yes, they play in the open air sometimes.

Amazing that for some reason everyone calls them the senators, now.

Yeah, I wonder about that as well. Seeing as they were only called the 'Senators' officially for like 20 years of their existance. The Nats is just a cool nickname .

they havent done anything interesting in years

*cough* 2000. Usually when one says 'years' they usually mean more like 10 or so, but if you meant 3 years as not doing anything in 'years', then I apologize .

why arent there any mexican teams? why are there canadian ones when i dont think canada is particularily baseball-concerned. i can see not having japanese teams in the MLB, but why not Puerto Rican? Mexican? Dominican? too much competition?

Well they also went to the LCS the year before that, when Kenny Rogers walked in the winning run in Game 6 .
