Didn't Robin Ventura hit the "grand slam single" the night before, or am I mixing up the '99 playoffs with the '00 playoffs?

You remember correctly... The Grand Single Game was the best game I've ever seen. Wonderfully played. Shame the series ended like it did.

And of course the fact that the scorer scored it a single, makes it an utterly legendary game .

It would have been more sentimental if the Expos moved to Minneapolis and the Twins, the original Washington team moved back to DC.

Yeah the Twins fans would have loved that. It's amazing that their owner is such a bastard but the twins are so well run.

BTW Cubbies suck. They should run Dusty out of town instead of Steve Stone. Dusty is more concerned with being right, then winning games. He is easily one of the worst in game managers in all of professional baseball. I use to think that he got more out of his players. Pathetic bastards.

I hope Sosa retires, they give up on Patterson, at the very least fire Waving wendall Kim and Sarge the strikeout coach. **** em.

Yep, I've known that for a while though . He absolutely KILLS his young pitchers arms by not limiting pitch counts. He doesn't want to hear the new science (ie, Moneyball stuff) either.

I should say he is one of the Worst Managers in all of Baseball. I've actually known he was a bad in game manager, since the World Series with the Giants. Just last season made me forgive that, even though he brutalized Prior. It is however Cubbie tradition to kill your pitchers. Baylor did it to the bullpen and Dusty thought it would be fun to do it the most ****ing important thing on our team the Starting rotation. This year he picked on Zambrano, who is a big Kid, I do mean kid. Someone should have straighten him out but not Dusty.

Dusty doesn't want to listen to anything. It's not just Moneyball. It took him all season to drop SamME Sosa down in the batting order. "He's a warrior, but he is an emotional one" WTF Sammy is a clubhouse cancer, beats his wife too. And when the players took it upon themselves to attack the media, stupid Baker did nothing. Hell, he probably encouraged it. Save Mariotti who thinks he gains cred by bashing Chicago teams. The Media in Chicago are downright homers.

Recently he had a sit down with Steve Stone because Steve transgressed when he pointed out that Chicago was playing bad fundamental baseball and a few other correct observations. Steve was biased toward the Cubs!! Now the rumors are that they're going to run him out of town. Leaving ‘Rah-Rah I couldn't even get a Job with the Cards’ Chip Caray. They'll probably bring in Santo, who I love as a player but can't stand in the radio booth, to do color commentary. Bull****. Also Steve Stone helped Dusty get his job with the Giants. It's not like the Giants went down hill without Dusty.

Hendry did a decent Job building the team. Sure he needed a lead off hitter and he couldn't get a replacement for a closer. Not that Dusty improved the situation any when he kept throwing Hawkins out there to close. You could of course argue that he didn't have anyone else. But he didn't even try to find anyone else on the team or from the minors. I can think of a few possibilities. I just hope Hawkins recovers and returns to being one of the best set up men in the league.

My point though is that Dusty took a team with tons of talent and failed miserably. When things went wrong, Dusty didn't fix them he was too worried about the psyche of the team. What a moron. I'm going stop.

PS. I would have done this on cubs board but they are either to depressing or over run with Card and Stros trolls.

                    No, no, go ahead .

Dusty is the latest monster to arise from the Billy Goat curse .

                              • Well it was their first name. The article is incorrect, btw. The 'Senators' was the nickname for the 'Nationals' up until the 1950s, when it became the official name. I wonder why this myth gets so much play. After all people called the Washington team 'The Nats' for a good reason!
