The questions are designed that way. For example "Can corporations be trusted to respect the environment?"

You may think, no, they can't, but that doesn't effect your economic stance really. What does is how you would deal with the view that corporation can't be trusted - taxation on pollution, laws banning pollution, consultation on a joint way forward, or letting them make lots of profit at the expense of the environment. All 4 would have different results on your economic outlook.

Yeah, the one that really gets me is the question about the free market and controls. I think it's something like "in a truly free market, it is necessary to have controls to prevent multi-national corps from forming monopolies".

The thing is, in a TRUE free market, you wouldn't have any controls. But I think the question is asking if you favor controls. I think the market does need some regulation - but it doesn't change the fact that as soon as you regulate it, it isn't a TRUE free market any more.

I believe in preventing monopolies, but that question assumes that anyone who says they agree should be classed as left wing economic, which is stupid.

I agree, it's not the greatest test, especially for those of us whom have actually worked on enviornmental policy. Anyway:

                            Economic Left/Right: -3.75
                            Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.44

C'mon, who's the jerkwad that actually feels they should be proud of where they born?

                              OK, here's the actual statement:

A genuine free market requires restrictions on the ability of predator multinationals to create monopolies.

The thing is, everyone should disagree with the statement because it is factually untrue - a genuine free market simply doesn't have any controls. However, whether or not you think a geniune free market is desirable is another matter.
