International law is a big cluster of diverging interests. In its state of advancement, it's about as 'fair and balanced' as Hammurabi's code of law.

But I don't give a **** about it anyway because in this case the Supreme Court has ruled that Quebec can secede, which supercedes international law.

Nothing new in that article, really. These ideas have been around for a long time.

But I think Greenland should get independence if it wants to. I'm not sure all Greenlanders are so enthusiastic about it though. They get 57% of their monatas from Denmark for instance. Replacing that with income from new gold and diamond mines or more tourism or whatever could take decades.

And if it becomes independent we might have to start calling it Kalaallit Nunaat

Anyway Greenland can always come back to her real mother, Norway. That it's ruled by Denmark today is just the result of many bizarre little coincidences.

So you are saying that US's invasion of Iraq was totally legal? Since you don't believe in the legitimacy of International Law that is?

Block them? No.. if Canada decided not to offer Quebec independance after 60% of Quebec voted to leave, international law would back Canada. Self-determination in this, the fourth stage of self-determination, means being able to have a voice in the government, not split yourself off because you are a petulant childish minority who can't play well with others. You only have a RIGHT to leave if the majority is oppressing you.

So, Kurdistan under Saddam's Iraq would have a right to seccession (if they did so). However, under the current Iraqi structure, they don't.

Actually it hasn't. It says that if Quebec's referendum passed, Canada has to consider it. HOWEVER, the rest of Canada must hold a referendum whether Quebec should be allowed to leave, and if that fails, then Quebec cannot seceed. After all, it isn't just affecting itself by leaving.

Yep Iceland didn't need an attractive name though. Most (?) of the early settlers didn't go there because they wanted to. They were banished there.

Now why Vinland ("Wineland") didn't become a huge hit is beyond me.
