How does the pricing compare? I would prefer to spend ~1k, but could go up to ~1.5k (which is how much I think the X31 is, I think I could get an Apple (which also could fulfill the needs for this machine) for 1k).

Oh my. If your budget is 1K, don't go for the stuff I was talking about.

Well, I am prone to splurging. (I bought a 3k piano last year). And the range is 1-1.5k (which includes the low-end T series and X series).

One concern with the T series is that it is a bit larger (14 versus 12). Also, a plus for Apple is that it is cheaper, I think (haven't visited their website recently).

I could also consider someone else (like Toshiba?).

This is not meant to be my main computer. My main will have Raid-0 Raptors and a much faster processor with my 21" screen.

For my computer, I was also thinking about $4000 for my computer. Does that change anything?

Build your own, and you can afford two top-end machines!
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Let me put it this way. I don't know anyone who has the time, and is experienced in computers, and we are good friends. I'd just rather a company does it and checks it anyway.

Which leads to what this thread is about, or at least sort of about, what is the best computer to buy for gaming.

I may be biased since I used to work for them.

But seriously, top-quality stuff. Usually rated higher than Alienware and Falcon Northwest.

That one's only $5K CDN, $4K US with the default config.

This one is more reasonable: http://www.voodoo.ca/systems/advanced.aspx?t=1&p=260
                            $3.5K CDN, $2.7K US.

                              Those are nice computers.

Bit too pricey for my budget, especially considering my current machines do all I need them to.

I don't understand why its so damn expensive. For 5K, there's 512 meg of ram, a 80 gig hard drive, there's no monitor, no cd burner, no audio card, no speakers...
