Oh come on, it's as clear as glass that fans will always like the 'first version' they saw above any later version. No matter if the later version is better or not.

I always wonder about starwars fans why they don't have any self-reflection on that.

I'm happy that I'm a Lord of the Rings fan. We LOTR fans always prefer the later (Extended) versions of 'our' movies above the earlier (theatrical) versions

And we all hope Peter Jackson will release a very extended special edition with more more more new scenes.

Star Wars fans in the end get more and more depressed, with every new film that will be released. LOTR fans only get happier and happier!
I'd rather be one of the lather then one of the first. You life must suck if you're a star wars fan

Why does anyone like these films? Star Wars (the first film) was barely tolerable. I refused to see the muppet fest and the third one for many years. Then a friend lent me his copy of the original trilogy. God did that suck!

But he touched it too much!

          A simple matter of opinion.
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Star Wars sucked then, and it sucks now.

People should just suck it up and move on.

I'll give him credit on this one... While I'm sure we can argue forever on whether the original versions are better than his later released versions... he's doing what he wants. He could just have easily released the originals first... made tons of money, and then released his later version a year later, and made even more money. Instead, he's only releasing what HE FEELS is the better version. Whether we agree or not, I give him some credit for sticking to his guns on this.

I look forward to finally having these on DVD's.

I'm sure when Lucas dies they will read his will and find yet more revisions to the saga that has to be made.

which they are free to do so.

It's not the fault of GL that people actually buy it.

He can do whatever he wants to. The hard core fans are going to buy whatever he puts out. I'll end up getting the DVD's and after that I'm done with the Star Wars buying since the OT is what I have wanted on DVD for a long time.

But it is his fault that he sells it.

I have to agree that it's his baby and he can do what he feels is best for it. If you want the originals, go buy the VHS tapes.

it's his right to do what he wants with his creation.

however, it's also my right to say that his stuff recently just completely sucks monkey balls.

I consider it to be the best. The only movie I'm interested in. The other 2 of the originals are okay. Ep 1 and 2 are scary in their horribleness.

Didn't he already do that? On VHS, there was a huge promotion for the original movies before the special edition came out.

I'm sorry, but it's his story, his idea, his creation. He decided he wanted to show us what he had come up with. I don't think we have any right at all to be angry with him. We can think his work sucks, but we can't get all pissed because he's ****ing with our dreams. It's his goddamn brainchild.

Indeed. People seems to totally forget that the entire Star Wars universe sprung from Lucas' brain. If he wants to make small changes to the original trilogy to make it fit what he wanted to do in 1979, but didn't have the tech to do so, then fine.

It'll still sell a ****load of copies, so, in the end, it doesn't matter. If you really are THAT hardcore about it (and if so, then you live a sad existance), get the old VHS copies.

He did not direct the Empire Strikes Back.

But he did direct A New Hope, which people consider very close in quality to Empire Strikes Back.
