They came from behind the building though, it's not clear that they came *from* the building. Iraqi medical personnel also said on the news that there were a large number of civilian wounded brought in afterwards... (That's TV news btw) Also, I'd have thought that US Marines would have enough firepower to totally wipe out a crowd in no cover on their own without needing an F-16 to do it...

edit: how does an F-16 could hover like that ....?

I think that we can't assume anything. Not that these were infact combatants, not that these were civilians.

Not all combatants are well trained and keep a large distanced formation or crawl.

However, not all people running towards a marine force are necessarily combatants.

Urban combat against plain-clothes guerillas / terrorists is always very difficult.

I am aware that not all combatants are well trained, but I'd have thought that common sense would dictate that running down the middle of a street is just plain dumb. It may well be though that guerrillas were using a civilian crowd as cover as they did in Somalia... perhaps that might explain why the Marines didn't massacre them (?)

I remember seeing this on C4 news the other day. The general consensus amongst us watching at the time was that it was not a positive cool pant creaming yeehaw 'oh dude' at all.

More a 'I cant beleive Ive just killed all those people'. The pilot is just doing his job, but he doesnt sound happy about it.

As far as running down the street goes, what else do you do when you are under fire and you can hear the air strike coming?

What a way to express regret -- casually muttering the words, "oh dude."

How about how France had ties with Saddam Huessein?

Do you consciously or subconsciously alter reality to conform with your opinions? No where in the clip did the pilot express any real emotion, whether it be anguish or glee.

I think that's more than a little unfair... sure, they have a reputation as being trigger happy (ask Brits serving alongside them in ww2), but I don't think it's fair to call them 'cold blood[ed] killers'... there're people like that in every army and as long as about 2% of the population are sociopaths, so, will a certain percentage of the military be.

You ever heard of 'Bloody Sunday', Amritsar or Algeria to name but a few examples?

Do you really think he sounds happy then?

Whats more likely, psychopath pilot, or ordinary guy in a ****ed up situation.

Well what the hell was that? They bombed a crowd in the middle of a street...but we'll never know what they were one way or another...

Well maybe that guy likes to use the word "dude" to express profound regret but I would think there are better words for such expression.
