  • McCain 2008 ?

Alright, I hope Bush loses and Kerry wins

I don't have high hopes for Kerry, only that he does a Clintonesque type of leadership and doesn't screw anything up.

But I'd like to see John McCain get back into it in 2008.

If I recall, Kerry has had some past failed presidential bids himself.

The Republicans don't really have any stars to put forward, unless the Guvenator somehow gets an Amendment passed, which in that case he would PW3N the entire election. Democrats aren't doing good either, but then again, people like George Bush and Clinton seemed to have come out of nowhere.

By the way, there was a study at Univeristy of Maryland, in which if the world voted, it was like 75% Kerry, 25% Bush.

Would you vote for McCain? Or maybe he is better as the man who tempers Bush's misguided sword?

Powell is a non factor after he was used and disgraced before the UN by lying to the world about the weapons of mass evaporation.

That would be awful to America. Bush isn't the best, but he's a whole lot better then Kerry. Kerry is sh*t.

The Republican party has plenty including Giulani (who did not rule out running last time he was asked about it), Bill Frist, McCain, Condi Rice... etc..

I'm an Eurocom and I do not know enough about McCain (except that a lot of the evil Americans here seem to like him ) to decide.

Guiliani seems to have been a solid leader

I think Rice is very well spoken, but personally she scares me, she's like evil Cheney's protege

It'll never be McCain, and it certainly won't be Rudy or Condi. The 2008 GOP nomination is Jeb Bush's for the asking. If he doesn't run, it will pit Bill Frist as the establishment candidate against Rick Santorum as the candidate of the hard-right faithful.

What is wrong with Cheney or the Bush family?

What is wrong with you Ted? Apolyton bite your rear-end?

BTW, what happened to make you flip the script, player?

I don't remember you putting the hate on Bush earlier.

I seriously doubt that Jeb Bush will run in 2008. The Bushes are smart enough to know that the public needs a breather in between members of the dynasty.

He won't run. My bets are either on Frist or Giuliani (who hasn't ruled it out, in fact suggested he might).

Giuliani and McCain weren't just speaking at the Republican convention.

                        They were auditioning.

Well, I've certainly had enough of the Bushes. But if George wins, there's going to be a kind of "Cult of Bush" in the party that will help Jeb; if W loses, there will be a revenge scenario to play out (just as W was Daddy's revenge on Clinton/Gore).

As for McCain, he might run but won't get nominated because his own party doesn't actually like him very much: he breaks ranks, he criticizes the president, he believes in campaign finance reform, and he just generally thinks of himself. That's very bad for any party politician, but especially bad for a GOP politician; the GOP values loyalty and unswerving obedience above almost anything (this is why the GOP is more disciplined, and more successful, that the Dems). They may trot McCain out now to appeal to swing voters, but they'll go back to not trusting him just as soon as the elections over.

On McCain, see my comment above.
On Rudy: the man lost his Senate race to Hilary Clinton, fer Crissake. His leadership during and after 9/11 was remakable, but it's going to be a distant memory by 2008 -- at which time he'll have been out of office for six years, and never held any national or even statewide office. That's not a prescription for electoral success, and never has been. Add in Rudy's cancer, his adultery during his first marriage, his loose cannon of a first wife, and his own volatile temperment, and I just don't see his candidacy going anywhere.
