You fail thought to address the simple fact this country is divided evenly along partisan lines, with a big chunk of people abstanining. Claiming someonehow republicans appeal to some great majority that agrees ona set of positions and can be called "mainstream" is something rightwingers like to claim, but for which you have 0 evidence for. So one right-wing souther democrat rants about the party- the demos won special elections in Kentucky and South Dakota in congress- yup, ours is sucha liberal party we can't possibly win out in the boondocks

If you can show any HARD numbers that show there is such a thing as "a mainstream", show them. Another put up or shut up position here.
Well, the problem with that ol' mainstream is that they're Nixon's "Silent Majority" - they don't say nuthin, so anybody can make up anything they want about them. Kind of like ghosts and little gray aliens who want to check your teeth.

I'm open to any offers that pay decently and don't require voting for Bush.

They don't need the Repubs to define Kerry with his lies, anyone can do that.

Right, cause the 8 million people who live in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota are somehow more "American" than the people of NYC?

            Of course. Duh...

One also has to applaud the cynical use of 9/11 in the convention and also makign their convention so late in the process.
Keep your brave face on. Keep telling yourself it is merely your candidate. Simple buyers remorse, your positions and platform actually resonate through the country.

The instant reaction from liberal and anti-Bush journalists, as well as the DNC, was that Miller was as bad as or worse than Pat Buchanan. DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe noted that at least Buchanan smiled in 1992 when he gave his (now somewhat undeservedly) infamous speech at that year's convention.

                ...

Andrew Sullivan, a senior editor at the New Republic and a highly regarded blogger, noted the contrast between the Dem's Boston keynoter, Barack Obama - "a post-racial, smiling, expansive young American" - and the Republicans. "Then you see Zell Miller," Sullivan continued, "his face rigid with anger, his eyes blazing with years of frustration as his Dixiecrat vision became slowly eclipsed among the Democrats. Remember who this man is: once a proud supporter of racial segregation, a man who lambasted LBJ for selling his soul to the negroes."

                ...

Now, none of this is to say that Miller's speech wasn't stern stuff. But was it really, in Sullivan's words, "gob-smackingly vile"?

I wonder if it is worth pointing out to Ogie that Andrew Sullivan is a Republican, who would otherwise be voting for Bush if not for his stance on homosexuals.

I also wonder if a piece by Jonah Goldberg should really be considered "analysis," as opposed to "cheerleading."

I don't know about that. Sully ain't the most stable of personalities and it's difficult to tell where he really stands, despite all the "I'm a conservative" claims that got him his audience.

Uhhh...Wow. You really just don't get it. Typical democratic response. When all else fails start throughing wild comparisons and deflect the point! Shhh...maybe America won't notice.

No GePap...those are your words...not mine. You do seem to put the opinions of New Yorkers ahead of the rest of the country however.

Or that the folks in the south are someohow more "American" than the people of Illinois, NY, and California (who happen to be more numerous actually)
Again, where did I say that? Are you so out of points that you have to start making up crap and stating it as fact? Your democratic idols have taught you well.

Indeed, the guy is as fiscally conservative as anybody who currently resides in Congress (I'm not sure if he's as far as David Floyd / Bezerker).
