What the **** is "mainstream" America?

First of all, about as many Americans call themselves democrats as republicans, and if you think the right-wing stance of the national party uts the mustard with all national rpeublicans, just look at Imran.

The fact you guys got less votes last time for president, a tiny lead in congress (which has gotten relatively smaller each time since 1996), and could not even pass the ban on gay marriage makes me more than dubious about your claims that the republicans can claim to be in touch with whatever the **** the "mainstream" is supposed to be.

Right, cause the 8 million people who live in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota are somehow more "American" than the people of NYC?

Or that the folks in the south are someohow more "American" than the people of Illinois, NY, and California (who happen to be more numerous actually)

Sorry, but this crap about "the heartland" and the "mainstream" are just the illusions of the rightwing. If Bush wins, he wins cause people are scared, not becuase people think he is a good domestic leader.

BTW, GePap, your vote doesn't matter either. Your vote doesn't matter unless you live in Ohio, Florida, or Missouri.

                    at the Badarnik voter

Mine was a simple statement of fact- just look at the Republican Convention: we are living under great threat-only Bush can keep you safe! That was the message. A couple of mentions here or there to anything domestic, but overall, all about fear.

You fail thought to address the simple fact this country is divided evenly along partisan lines, with a big chunk of people abstanining. Claiming someonehow republicans appeal to some great majority that agrees ona set of positions and can be called "mainstream" is something rightwingers like to claim, but for which you have 0 evidence for. So one right-wing souther democrat rants about the party- the demos won special elections in Kentucky and South Dakota in congress- yup, ours is sucha liberal party we can't possibly win out in the boondocks

If you can show any HARD numbers that show there is such a thing as "a mainstream", show them. Another put up or shut up position here.

My vote, once I have it, won't matter either. I live in Maryland. It voted to re-elect Carter. There's no way it will ever come close to voting Republican, unless it's a 40+ state victory for the Republican candidate anyway. Thus, there is no reason for me to vote strategically and in 2008, I'll vote for whatever fool 5th party candidate I want to. You got that?

                        What Bravado?

I have already said the Kerry campaign has been horribly run this last month and they let the repugs define him with their lies.

One also has to applaud the cynical use of 9/11 in the convention and also makign their convention so late in the process.

Yeah, Zell gave a rip-roaring speech. Too bad it had a few direct lies.

Not even close. Zell is very much a conservative Republican in all but party name.

Just like those old Dixiecrats Thurmond and Helmes and Lott . . . oh, wait. Miller is as far to the right as the right wing of the Republican Party. People like Schartzneger, Giulliani, and McCain are to the left of Miller.

There is now an organized tendency in the Republican Party fighting to try and take power away from the rightwing Xians, Mainstream2004.

Oh come on, Thurmond, Helms and Lott are the pink wing of the republican party-true moderate to liberal party members. I mean, compared to Attila, Ghengis Khan, Mussolini, Pinochet and Franco the guys are pussies- real girlie-men! Right PLATO?
