Mmmm. According to my dictionaries, chauvin means something like jingoism. It might have a less literal meaning, but jingoism is a bit strong. "Rose coloured glasses" means looking at something more fondly, more positively, more optimistically than reality says you should.

She is a bit of a mix actually - Italian, Bavarian, Polish...

It looks as though you were right about Carter. He's in at 5/8. Carlos wasn't available, whatever that means, and Mehrtens and Marshall being rested.

Surprisingly it looks as though McCaw will get a shot as captain at some point too when they give Tana a break.
It's being billed as another 'development tour' (hence the not playing England no doubt ) although with only 8 new players in the whole squad I think that may be underestimating things just a bit.

Carlos declared himself unavailable a couple of weeks ago "to recover from assorted injuries". Code for: "I see the writing on the dressing room wall and I'm jumping before I'm pushed". And Marshall and Mehrtens being rested is code for: "Pity their eyesight wasn't as good as Carlos'".

Havak's nose twitches in his sleep as his subconscious senses an opportunity to mention, yet again, the All Blacks' habit of avoiding playing England.

What really surprises me is that they are doing so right now. They must fancy their chances against an early rebuilding stage of an England side? Or maybe not?

And they do avoid us – particularly in England. Since the Millenium they have played us four times – three if which were in New Zealand. There is a pattern there you know – a huge gap between 1999 and 2002 whilst England were on the ascendancy and they were on the decline – then they find Howlett and Rokocoko and refs stop policing forward play and hey presto they are happy to play us again in Nov 2002.

And now they are only the third best side in the tri-nations they may even mistakenly think a young England side could challenge them.

I’m quite happy for Caligastia to remind me of this summers games – after all they were the ones that gave AB fans thoroughly false confidence for the Tri-nations campaign. All those victories over Day glo’s mob were meaningless (for starters he was and is a terrible skipper and the refs sucked ass – particularly the red card incident where AB forwards proved they prefer an emasculated game so their nails don’t get cracked and they can lay over the ball at will). I think the SH fans forget our boys came home from the world cup straight into another six solid months of rugby rather than heading to the beach for that time like your lads did.

I have no idea how the autumn games will go. Some key players are well rested and some super talents coming back from injury. Some players are playing so well I am almost tempted to think we have a chance of winning all three. But we probably will not. I forgot we don’t have a fly half (Hodgson needs to prove to me the potential of three years ago is still there after the summer debacle).

I still wish Jonno was interested – he is playing better now than this time last year. In the form of his life in fact. Englands loss = Tigers gain.

Yes Luger and Henry Paul named in the squad. Make of this what you will too – of the initial 40 man squad Robinson named there are six Tigers forwards – and just one back. I feel so sorry for Ollie Smith – who was named in the press release as one of the players unavailable due to injury meaning he would have made it if not for the shoulder knock against Bath. But Moody and Deacon make the 40 – as do Corry, Kay and White (who is scrumming a storm right now). Young Harry Ellis flies the Tigers girlies flag at half back.

There is perhaps hope for Robinson – only five Bath players made the 40.

There are some interesting youngsters from other clubs in there too. More on that as we get nearer the Wallaby whipping date.

I know what I make of it. Forward power rules at Leicester. The watchable games are played elsewhere.

For once I will take you seriously as such men, though I don't know who John Peel were, must indeed be mourned. Actually, every man who fought against the uniformity of mass consumption, willingly or not, deserve to be mourned. They are an endangered species fighting a desperate battle against people that are becoming too lazy or/and too dumb to listen at something else than the crap broadcasted on the mass media.
