By the way, as far as I know there is not any colloquialism like "rose-coloured glasses", words like chauvin and chauvinisme, along with circumstantial sentences, do the trick.

And no need to look for the colloquialism you wrote earlier, it is like missing a cow in a corridor.

Mmmm. According to my dictionaries, chauvin means something like jingoism. It might have a less literal meaning, but jingoism is a bit strong. "Rose coloured glasses" means looking at something more fondly, more positively, more optimistically than reality says you should.

And no need to look for the colloquialism you wrote earlier, it is like missing a cow in a corridor.
      I like that too!

Ah, well, you were spared watching a slaughter. Something which is only interesting to me if it's the All Blacks doing the slaughtering.

She's of Italian heritage? That's fine by me. Where in Italy is the family from? We're off over there for a couple of years sometime in the first half of next year.
I can't remember off the top of my head where it is - somewhere in northern Italy.
She is a bit of a mix actually - Italian, Bavarian, Polish...

Anyway, I'm in mourning today. John Peel died yesterday. In short, a legend of British rock broadcasting, a champion of new, unusual, unorthodox, interesting bands and their music from the 1960s onwards. He made a lot of rock careers by searching out and playing music no other mainstream DJ would. And he was still doing it at the age of 65 when he died.

So you finally managed to talk her into it then? Congratulations.
I take it then that a letter congratulating John Howard on his re-election is on its way to Canberra from one member of the finbar household afterall?
                Mmm. Or perhaps not.

Oh and speaking of slaughtering the English language you actually meant that you were off over there for a couple of years starting sometime in the first half of next year.
That or the finbar-holiday will be subject to a rather intense time-dilation effect.

Amanda Vanstone stuffed with plastic explosives, a timer and a detonator - parked outside his house - will be my parting gift to the little pr*ck.

                  • Hey Havak. Dan Luger and Henry Paul in the 40-man squad? Covering Laurel and Hardy in case they don't prove their fitness?

                    • Suxty sux.

It looks as though you were right about Carter. He's in at 5/8. Carlos wasn't available, whatever that means, and Mehrtens and Marshall being rested.

Surprisingly it looks as though McCaw will get a shot as captain at some point too when they give Tana a break.
It's being billed as another 'development tour' (hence the not playing England no doubt ) although with only 8 new players in the whole squad I think that may be underestimating things just a bit.

                      • Carlos declared himself unavailable a couple of weeks ago "to recover from assorted injuries". Code for: "I see the writing on the dressing room wall and I'm jumping before I'm pushed". And Marshall and Mehrtens being rested is code for: "Pity their eyesight wasn't as good as Carlos'".

                        • Awesome.
A good word to sum it up.

On behalf of the Pit Bull, I resent that!
Well you have to do it on his behalf given he cannot read.

Havak's nose twitches in his sleep as his subconscious senses an opportunity to mention, yet again, the All Blacks' habit of avoiding playing England.
What really surprises me is that they are doing so right now. They must fancy their chances against an early rebuilding stage of an England side? Or maybe not?

And they do avoid us – particularly in England. Since the Millenium they have played us four times – three if which were in New Zealand. There is a pattern there you know – a huge gap between 1999 and 2002 whilst England were on the ascendancy and they were on the decline – then they find Howlett and Rokocoko and refs stop policing forward play and hey presto they are happy to play us again in Nov 2002.

And now they are only the third best side in the tri-nations they may even mistakenly think a young England side could challenge them.

I’m quite happy for Caligastia to remind me of this summers games – after all they were the ones that gave AB fans thoroughly false confidence for the Tri-nations campaign. All those victories over Day glo’s mob were meaningless (for starters he was and is a terrible skipper and the refs sucked ass – particularly the red card incident where AB forwards proved they prefer an emasculated game so their nails don’t get cracked and they can lay over the ball at will). I think the SH fans forget our boys came home from the world cup straight into another six solid months of rugby rather than heading to the beach for that time like your lads did.

How is that for stinky old bait?

                          Moving swiftly on…

Much better for England to ('potentially' as a courtesy to Havak ) take its lumps and not unwisely expose their playmaker.
Oh potentially is definitely the correct word.

I have no idea how the autumn games will go. Some key players are well rested and some super talents coming back from injury. Some players are playing so well I am almost tempted to think we have a chance of winning all three. But we probably will not. I forgot we don’t have a fly half (Hodgson needs to prove to me the potential of three years ago is still there after the summer debacle).

I still wish Jonno was interested – he is playing better now than this time last year. In the form of his life in fact. Englands loss = Tigers gain.

Sounds rather intelligent and well-prioritized for an Englishman ...
You walked right into a minefield there.

Larder is the England (and Tigers) defensive coach. Background entirely in rugby league. And he is admiring the ABs and Kiwi rugger union? And you are happy with that correlation?

And Finbar – please do not dignify the GB League side by calling them Lions. They may well have tried to use the name but the “British and Irish Lions” are Union only thank you very much.

Yes Luger and Henry Paul named in the squad. Make of this what you will too – of the initial 40 man squad Robinson named there are six Tigers forwards – and just one back. I feel so sorry for Ollie Smith – who was named in the press release as one of the players unavailable due to injury meaning he would have made it if not for the shoulder knock against Bath. But Moody and Deacon make the 40 – as do Corry, Kay and White (who is scrumming a storm right now). Young Harry Ellis flies the Tigers girlies flag at half back.

There is perhaps hope for Robinson – only five Bath players made the 40.

There are some interesting youngsters from other clubs in there too. More on that as we get nearer the Wallaby whipping date.
Maybe Marshall and Mehrts are missing because this is a ‘developmental’ (ha-ha) tour designed to build bridges – and both have mouths that sometimes bring bridges crashing down?

Sorry, I'm still in mourning for John Peel. And I hope you're wearing black crepe, too. Anyway, the BBC used the term, so it can't possibly be questioned.

I think someone wrote down their names for a joke and forgot about it.

I know what I make of it. Forward power rules at Leicester. The watchable games are played elsewhere.

Mmmm. I actually think G. Henry has showed some courage and opted for generational change. I have to say, having watched a lot of S12 matches last season, none of the newcomers' names ring many bells with me.

                            • Hmm - I thought the conclusion would be "too many non-English players in our backs".

And yes bad news about Peely...

For once I will take you seriously as such men, though I don't know who John Peel were, must indeed be mourned. Actually, every man who fought against the uniformity of mass consumption, willingly or not, deserve to be mourned. They are an endangered species fighting a desperate battle against people that are becoming too lazy or/and too dumb to listen at something else than the crap broadcasted on the mass media.
