Because of how the Repugs have acted for the last 30 years? Not that I believe your initial claim.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
You know it is funny that many young people think that Lincoln was a Democrat and that Republicans, not the Democrats, blocked civil rights legislation for a century after the burst in the immediate years following the Civil War.
actually, no, because there really are people who wonder why the Republican party has trouble getting minorities to their side when they welcome those who are prejudiced and pundits who share the same views into their fold.
if you have people like ann coulter and michael savage on your side, is it really that hard to understand why you don't get a lot of little soy-eaters who made the bataan death march on your side?
Not necessarily. Speaking as one who was going through pending fatherhood with great anticpation (and ultimately loss), I have several friends (made via support) that made tough decisions to abort due to severe genetic flaws caught in screening. Their loss was excruciating.
I should have expressed myself more clearly. I didnt mean to imply that everyone who deliberately terminates a pregnancy is irresponsible. Far from it, I completely understand the anguish that accompanies contemplating or making such a decision.
The fact remains though that the vast majority of the (IMO) staggeringly high numbers of abortions in this country are not the result of the types of tough decisions you have pointed out nor are they the result of broken condoms or any of the other trivial notions suggested by Sava.
note: this is just a joke. JD killed someone I knew.

People who are born are contributing members of society.
how does an infant contribute to society? by making piles of crap for more people to dispose of? seriously, you materialists in this disgusting corporate society...
An infant is a person. People contribute to society. No one can always contribute to society. They are required to when they can.
You are talking about a social contract. Abortion is about one person deciding that they don't want to pay the price for someones life who they may not consider to be alive yet. They are completely justified in making that decision just as you and I are justified in deciding that we don't want to donate blood or give up our kidneys.
Each one of them has the right to welfare if they need it. Each one of them is obligated to pay for it if they don't. This is completely different.
what about those people who need it but don't get it because of the fact that they have a job that pays just enough to not receive welfare, but whose pay is markedly below what is considered the poverty line?
what about those people who don't need it but get it? and by don't need it, i mean those who sponge off the government and refuse self-betterment, thinking it easier to just not work and soak up what is essentially free money?
What do you think? I'm against people recieving more pay for work?
A fetus has no obligation to the person who gives birth to it.
so you say. it's my understanding that a zygote, a fetus, an infant, a toddler, a child, a teen, and a young adult have enormous obligations to its parents. so much so that filial piety is an enormous part of their upbringing. of course, this could just be confucianism talking, but.
In what country are there laws that force children to take care of their parents?
It doesn't really matter. You want to force people into contract. Women must be free to decide if they want to carry a fetus. It's that simple. Even if you paid them and forced them it would violate them.

An extreme assumption on your part. But that brings up a good pont. The extremely elderly are not productive, as are some of the disabled. We shouldn't support them either by your abortion logic. At least the baby COULD be productive, while a good portion of those we keep alive now are obviously not and never will be.
We don't force the young to do anything with their bodies to keep old people alive. We set up social programs for them, and yes we all contribute based on our ability. There is a huuuuge difference. Your right to your body greatly outways your right to your income which you have recieved by benefiting from the society that you contribute to.

Because this thread is so stupid, I will fill it with pictures of mountain goats.

Could it be, Q Cubed, that this is not about "race" but about socialism vs. capitalism? The major "civil rights" leaders of the last 40 years or so have also been major league leftists. Republicans has strongly backed civil rights, but still cannot gain any headway among so-called civil rights leaders because of left-right politics.
That is changing, of course, as more and more minority conservatives are becoming prominent in the Republican Party.
