Monk, it'd be great if you could make an attempt at quitting now with the rest of us. If only I had had the foresight to do that at your age, some 18 years ago. I might actually be able to walk the stairs to my 3rd floor apartment without losing my breath.

I'll be joining you, but in ten cigarettes or so. Such is the pitifulness of the smoker

      • That's only fair... It's the same way I joined ship, re the first page of this thread. I said I'd join at midnight, but then I took a nap and woke up a prospective non-smoker...

          • Are you still on top of things Kidicious?

I could never do it like you're doing with no substitute nicotine at all. My hat's off to you, keep going!

I recall having read somewhere that the major physical abstinences should begin to wear off on the fourth day or something along those lines. From there on, the problem is mostly in your head, having to get through everyday situations that you would otherwise associate with having a smoke.

Of course, that's still a force to be reckoned with.

              • Pekka, I've waited to post in this thread until it's likely you've dropped the ball, screwed the moose, had a smoke.

This post is for you, the failure.

You've smoked, bought a pack or borrowed enough cigs by now to be a pain in the ass to your smoking friends, assuming you got any friends.

The message is this, never quit quitting.

In the end YOU will be the winner, not the damn cigarettes.

Remember, you just have to string enough non smoking days together and your cells will give you a friggin break. Pray alot, God helps.

Eeeh Lancer, I'm sure your support is appreciated, but as far as I can see, he hasn't really given any indication that he's lost the battle already

Anyway, rest assured we'll keep the 'don't quit quitting' slogan in mind if things do turn out wrong in the end. Have you been in a similar struggle yourself?

                  • Winston, on an off-topic note (hey, an off-topic note on an off-topic board would actually be on-topic, right?), do you know what's going on here on the Western outskirts of Copenhagen tonight? I live on the 7th floor, and I've just spent a couple of minutes on the balcony (with a cigarette, sigh) witnessing some pretty impressive and expensive fireworks that is going on.

                    • Hmm, nothing special that I know of. Haven't you noticed there's always a lot of fireworks on weekend nights these days? It actually annoys me quite a bit sometimes, but it seems to be the trend that whenever you have a party or a wedding, you have to attempt to scare the bejeezus out of your neighbours at 22:00 or midnight.

                      Stupid proles.

                      • I've wondered sometimes from your postings, do you by any chance live in one of the 10-12 story buildings on the hill at Bellahøj? If so, I can see straight to you from where I'm sitting now.

If I get my binoculars, I'll be able to detect if you sneak out for a smoke, he-he.

Do you live in the centre of the city? You've never told us, but I've always thought you lived in the northern parts, Østerbro or somewhere along the way to Lyngby.

From my balcony, I can see the western parts of the region only - Gladsaxe, Herlev, Ballerup and the other suburbs in the general direction of Roskilde - so I haven't experienced that much fireworks.

                          • I'm in Vanløse. I could open my kitchen window and you'd feel the draft!

Edit: If you're at Bellahøj, you'd also be able to see the fireworks at Tivoli on Wednesdays and Staurdays at midnight. Admittedly, you'd see them in the distance, and probably not hear too much of it, but that could have been what you saw half an hour ago. They're quite impressive.

Cool, if you own your apartment, you can expect its price to rise dramatically in the future. Possibly even more than it has already. I never thought I'd say it, but bless the metro line

I live in an student housing project further down Frederikssundsvej. Initially, it was allright, but eventually the social authorities in Tingbjerg on the other side of Vestvolden began sending its troubled youth this way. If you had owned a television set, you could have witnessed the results yourself when TV2/Lorry came by to cover the problems we have out here.

I'd like to live on Bellahøj, but no, I'm forced to live here:

                              • Some people are genetically pre-disposed to smoke — same goes with alcohol. Of course, that just makes life more of a challenge. But perhaps that's why were supposed to (ideally, anyone) overcome our limitations and surpass them.
