  • Olympics Discussion Thread

Rather than start like 4 threads on stuff I'm interested in the games, I'd figure I'd start one, on the SPORTS, no back and forth about if Greece is a worthy site.

Anyway, Puerto Rico schooled the US in basketball (as stated in the other thread).

Iraq looks like it's going to 2-0 in soccer by beating Costa Rica. They look to be a lock to move on to the elimination round. It's amazing this is a team who didn't expect to do anything, yet they routed Portugal and is beating Costa Rica, which isn't a horrible side at all.

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing Thorpe, Phillips, van den Hoogenband, and co. competiting in the 200 meter freestyle. That should be a race for the ages

USA womens' volleyball got beat by the evil Chinese Horde last night

Mens gymnastics was fun to watch, I liked the Italian guy that did the Iron Cross

I can't believe the US basketball team got pwned by Puerto Rico, especially considering they have a player with a beer gut!!!

Watching some fun vollyball. Italy just beat down the US.

And some interesting news about the 400 relay, because it'll be shown on CBS tonight for the Americans, I'll spoiler it .

        Spoiler:
The South Africans set a WORLD RECORD and cleaned the clocks of both Australia and the US... meaning Phelps, in order to back up his idiotic boast, has to win out to tie Spitz

Well, we've beaten Cuba during the Haarlem Baseball Week a couple of weeks ago, winning of Taiwan has become a routine job and I know we will win gold these Olympics.

Some of our players are competing for these fine foreign teams: Yucatan Leones, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Roudn Rock Express, Altoona Curve, Montgomery Biscuits, Daytona Cubs, Bowie Baysox and the Elizabethtown Twins.

That said, does the Olympics exist for those without a TV, or are they merely imagnary faries of god?

Denmark beat France 35-26 in Women's Handball. The French are reigning World Champions, while the Danish girls took the gold in both Atlanta and Sydney.

So starting off with a 9-goal win over what is supposedly a rival team for the top spot, it looks very promising.

Handball is actually the most intense and captivating team sport there is, as far as I'm concerned. And I would wager that millions of Europeans and Asians share that view.

Anyway, despite the women's win in handball, it would seem that not all is well in the Kingdom. This is how the Olympic dream ended for one of the Danish sailers, Jonas Høeg-Christensen today in the Finn Dinghy Class. He apparently wasn't aware that the rules had been changed to allow the launching of a maximum of three torpedoes at any one of your rivals:

                            Correct!

We have to stress time and time again how violent it is, just so there's at least some chance the Americans will see the light and take an interest.

Ooh, handball is one MEAN sport.

violent as in actual malice of the players to injure one another?
