If you are male you simply have to remember that women are different to us in the way they think. However you would respond to a situation, forget it because a woman will certainly react differently.

Basically you have to send the message that you are considering her situation every time. The correct comment in Gibsie's position was to say "I'm sorry that I won't be around to help you pack". This says you are thinking of her and want to do something for her but can't. If she is determined to have an argument you will get one but this kind of response is fairly safe.

Note that once you are living together and committed, particularly once married, the game changes. In some ways it gets harder, in other ways she will probably cut you a bit more slack at times.

But Barinthus is right. How you say it sometime does have a big effect. Equally important is how you interpret your significant other's words and expressions.

Very true. Not just the part where I'm right . I try my best to interpret the SO's words in the positive light and I try to frame my words to communicate my intent clearly and so on. Unfortunately I don't always succeed .

The part about being so comfortable with each other the diplomatic part just goes away - so true. Sometimes I think I'm one mean s.o.b. because I don't always communicate my thoughts positively so sometimes they come out in that stinging painfully way (Biggest lesson for me: never never tell your SO that he or she's selfish, I still feel guilty about that and it was 3 years ago).

There got to be a way to be comfortable with each other without having to think like a super diplomat yet being able to communicate without getting the SO's feelings hurt. Yet it's hard when one's tired and cranky, had a long day at work, a bit frustrated not having time to do whatever one want or time to oneself, and so on.

Yup... Yesterday, as she was tearing out a drop down ceiling in one of our rooms I notice that she was taking out part of the wall as well, and the metal framing that holds in the windows. All I said, "Are you taking out the windows too?" And honestly, there was no indignation in my voice, it was all matter of fact. She got all mad and said "No, but if I wanted to I will!" I was like "Sh1t, all I did was ask a question, if you want to take out the window go right ahead."

I have learned that she will back off it what I say is true and she knows it, because sometimes she jumps the gun. Had she just given me 1 more second I would of finished digging my hole with "Don't take out the window, women!"

I just got home, she's hanging something in the bathroom; a mirror I think. I was looking at the thingy and she had a bunch of toggel bolts sitting out that were way too big for the supports on the mirror. So, I ask "Are these supports you're going to use?"
