Watching your own people get blown up every day is even more disgusting. Empowering murderers, terrorists, and kidnappers is even more disgusting.

Telling the truth doesn't empower terrorists. Silencing it does.

Yet they are certainly more than grateful to get the "inside scoop," huh? Sorta like when Jerry Springer shows people punching the crap out of each other on tv. Great ratings!

As I said, I haven't seen any real proof to that effect.

Yeah, he was such a bad guy that Saddam tried to have him killed.

Stalin didn't like Hitler very much and vice-versa. So does that make Hitler a good guy or Stalin?

Allawi was a thug who assassinated enemies of the Ba'athist Party in London and conducted terrorist operations in Baghdad while in exile.

You can hardly compare a foreign "news" organization like Al-Jazeera with an organzation with deep local roots like Al-Sadr's paper. The locals will care less about it.

Sadr was a relatively marginal figure before we empowered him by shutting down the Sadrist paper. Most of the people who gave a **** weren't readers of the paper or sympathizers of the ideas it put forth.

I don't mind they shut it down. I guess it was kind of BS station. Now, shut down Fox too about time we get rid off all the biased BS crap in this world presneting opinions as facts.

The truth my ass. Taking the truth and using it as a spectacle is called incitement.

Yellow card for using Hitler references. Maybe Allawi saw what was going on and disagreed with it? The latest rumor regarding Allawi is that he shot dead 6 insurgents. Just recently.

First of all the US Army went in and shut down the paper, a paper with local roots. This time the Iraqis did it, and for a month. And finally you are overestimating the locals' affections for them.

"I got an order from the National Security Committee to close Al-Jazeera starting from today for one month just to give them the chance to readjust their policy against Iraq," said Interior Minister Falah al-Naqib.

When asked why, al-Naqib said "you know exactly" what the network has been doing.

Ramo are you attempting to apply an American Constitutional Amendment to Iraq?

I don't care what you call it, but maybe it helps to create public opposition to the terrorists.

            Check Oeridin's threads.

            Anything specifically?

Yellow card for using Hitler references.

Red card for using the fallacy that bad man doesn't like some guy, so some guy must be good.

Maybe Allawi saw what was going on and disagreed with it?

            Or maybe he's a thug?
"“If you’re asking me if Allawi has blood on his hands from his days in London, the answer is yes, he does,” Vincent Cannistraro, the former C.I.A. officer, said. “He was a paid Mukhabarat agent for the Iraqis, and he was involved in dirty stuff.” A cabinet-level Middle East diplomat, who was rankled by the U.S. indifference to Allawi’s personal history, told me early this month that Allawi was involved with a Mukhabarat “hit team” that sought out and killed Baath Party dissenters throughout Europe. (Allawi’s office did not respond to a request for comment.) At some point, for reasons that are not clear, Allawi fell from favor, and the Baathists organized a series of attempts on his life. The third attempt, by an axe-wielding assassin who broke into his home near London in 1978, resulted in a year-long hospital stay."

The latest rumor regarding Allawi is that he shot dead 6 insurgents. Just recently.

I'm aware of that. What's your point?

First of all the US Army went in and shut down the paper, a paper with local roots. This time the Iraqis did it, and for a month. They closed the Baghdad office. They still can operate, just that their main office has been closed down.

Wrong. They closed all the Iraqi offices.
"The Iraqi government closed the Iraqi offices of the Arab television station Al-Jazeera for 30 days, accusing it Saturday of inciting violence"

And finally you are overestimating Al Jazeera.

It's a helluva lot more important than the Sadrist paper. It's one of the most important news sources in Iraq, certainly the most important Arab Nationalist (an ideology that is prominent among Sunnis) source.

No, I'm holding the Iraq state to basic humanitarian standards.

And Naqib is a thug too. We raided his interior ministry a while back, and found lots of abuse of his prisoners.

It's there. I'm not going to seach through 1000 pages to find it. I've also seen this on some tv news shows.

Wrong. They closed all the Iraqi offices.
That's nice but no bonus points because I already edited it before you posted after rereading a few articles. Even so, they are still going to operate, "unofficially."

Why's that? US TV news replayed the Twin Towers being crashed into ad nauseum, I guess that means Fox News, CNN, etc. are in bed with al-Qaeda.

i dont get this whole anti-Al-Jazeera thing. what have they done? isnt all media inciting... the state press has its clear motives and independent media, with its sensationalism, also hypes people up.

And they stopped playing it after the first couple of days. And they will only rarely play it now. Because they realized the effects of what was being shown.

What exactly has Allawi done RECENTLY, other than above mentioned rumors ? The Iraqis picked him, in spite of the US and UN's recommendations. They seem to be comfortable with him.

Abusing prisoners, for instance, as I mentioned earlier. Less recently (a decade or so ago), there's the murdering of school children in Baghdad.

                              1. The IGC picked him.
