    Woohoo...!!! Another victory for the fundamentalists..

    * sigh *
    Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
    Then why call him God? - Epicurus

      I'm sure there were plenty of white racists/white supremacists were just gleeful that they found desegregation and equal suffrage to be good wedge issues during the 1950s and 60s.

      Some things never change -- there will always be politicians to appeal to bigotry and ignorance to create a "wedge issue."

        Whatever works. I'm not one to judge if it gets results. It is in line with what Kerry wants though. States deciding the issue for themselves and all.

            Yes, historically, states rights has often been used as a means for bigoted discrimination.

              I wouldn't complain Fun. It's also the reason Mass. can allow gay marriage in the face of opposition from the rest of the country.

                Not surprising coming from someone in a state that was a hotbed of segregationist politics. Hey, if it works to get the results you wants, the means are okay, right?

                I never thought you'd be the ends-justifies-the-means type, DD.

                Strawman alert. Nobody mentioned Kerry yet, and this doesn't have anything to do with him.

                  I thought I'd throw that in there to see if it got a response.

                      OK you are all busy arguing either side on this..but what is the likely ending of this gay marriage debate? Civil war?

                        The full faith and credit clause likely voiding of amendments passed in states like Missouri and then being ignored by the federal government because it already served its purpose.

                          A civil war?

                          I take it you're just joking with that question.

                              For now, it's mostly just talk when I say this, but if someday, bigotry wins over through an anti-gay federal law that is even stronger than DoMA, then I would have to at least seriously consider changing citizenship to a country where I have first-class citizenship like everyone else, rather than second-class citizenship in United States.

                              And since I don't want to be too far from family and friends, Canada might be the best option for that.
