Doing any sort of quantitative study of NA tribes would likely be impossible.

Their "natural" state disappeared far too long ago.

Again, this is not to claim that indigenous peoples were any more brutal than Euros. In fact, you can make the claim that the Euro governments were a lot more brutal than the average tribal leadership and I'd probably agree with you.

It's simply a matter of governments directing the use of force more to their own ends in more "advanced" societies.

OTOH, there's no reason a priori to assume that NA tribes were any more peaceful than those of South America or Astralasia.

I certainly think that if european colonists would just come and would build settlements in a civil manner, and would peacefully coexist, and influence the natives in terms of technology, it would be GREAT.

The real question here is overall, is the world better due to what happened? I still say yes.
