Depends on how they act.
They have candidates, some are known to have been paedophiles in the past, some not.
Who do they choose to deal with the kiddies, the kiddy fiddlers, or the non-kiddy fiddlers?
It would be insane to employ someone who agrees with shoving dog sh!t through people's letterboxes because they're of black or Asian origin or scrawling Nazi graffiti on synagogues in a police force whose jurisdiction included, say, Brixton, or Golders Green.
The idea is that the community has at least a shred of confidence in the impartiality of their police force.
Had you seen a documentary on new recruits into the constabulary (as many British people did not too long ago) you would understand why this is a very real concern, and not simply a high school hypothetical.
