      • So that's indefinitely. Ok.

Now, the sidetracking is over for my part.

But, if others want to go beyond showing support and want to discuss the politics, they should take it to any of the other usually available threads. And that is not just a suggestion. Is that clear

            • This thread was started 15 minutes after I logged off last time, so I have missed it for 2 weeks (as most other Worlds news, big or small).

My condoleances - Another needless death in a war already full of them.

On a side note, I'm surprised so many Americans joined the army because of 9/11. You don't attack terrorists with tanks, do you, not even in Afghanistan. Your brother-in-law should have joined FBI if he wanted to fight terrorism.

              • Shawn, I'm sorry to hear about your brother in law. Mine managed to survive a tour in Afghanistan and another in Iraq, and I was mightily worried that he wouldn't make it. I'm sorry that fate had something else in store for your family.

                • Just read your thread now. I'm very sorry to hear what happened.

Please take care of yourself and your sister. Our thoughts are with you.

                  • I don't post here anymore, came to check up on an old thread and felt compelled to post...

My sincerest condolences on your loss - perhaps if the protagonists understood what it was like to be in harm's way, they wouldn't be so eager to pull the trigger.

                        • I haven't read the rest of this thread, Shawn, nor do I intend to, for it would distract me from what's most important; namely: You are not alone in your grief. Know that others grieve with you.

                          • I'm sorry to hear about this.

Perhaps there's not much I can say that can make this any easier for you and the family, but this may help:

I know you're pissed off about how he died. This is natural and you have every right to be pissed off. Still, it is important not to spend too much time being bitter, as not much good comes out of that. When you're with your family and your loved ones, try to focus on how he lived and take comfort in that.

                            • Although I can certainly understand anger, it is mis-directed.
Even Saddam (So-Damn) Hussain thought he had WMD. In fact, recently some (in small and low grade amounts) have been found.
However, the real murderer of your brother in law was who ever pulled the trigger. Be it Saddam's flunkies, or guys that came in from other countries to do just that.

I am more upset with Bush 1 for not finishing it when he had the golden opportunity.

Saddam kept taking pot shots at US and British planes in the no fly zone, that was enough reason to go in and take him out as far as I am concerned.

I would however, like to offer my advise if your sister requires it. I have a long history in the insurance business with a strong leaning to the financial planning part of it. Depending on where she is living, I advise her to talk to a planner that is part of a larger office, not a guy with a secretary operating out of a dinky office. Don't hire unless she gets a call back within 48 hours of leaving a message each time she calls, and make sure she calls at least three time before committing herself to a particular financial planner. Make sure he has a CFP designation.

ALSO. If she is going to have a fairly large amount of money, say 250k+, mutual fund companies will lower thier fees if the financial planner will lower thier commision an equal percentage. The more money she has, the more they will lower thier fees. Play hard ball.
Act like the planner is in competition for her business.

Do NOT allow her to make major, long term financial arrangements for the first year. Sell the house, but talk to three agents about what it should go for.
No new house, no new car. Have her wait a year, no less.

I am very sorry that the best of a generation are the ones that die in wars, but it had always been so and always will.

As far as the person who said that people should have joined the FBI to combat terrorist.

PLEASE. First the FBI is domestic, not foreign. Second. It is far easier to get into the military than the FBI. Third, Americans understand that in order to stop this, we are going to have to kill everyone even remotely connected to anyone remotely involved with anyone remotely responsible with thinking about attacking us.

The CIA is a bloody joke and the FBI is a bureaucratic nightmare. The FBI is law enforcement, and law enforement can't do what needs to be done.
