Speer, what you need to do is to put yourself into the position you advocate.
Suppose you are talking to a friend about a certain issue. You try to explain your position to him. All he does is swearing and cursing at you. Calling you names. Verbally abusing you, trying to cut you down.
If you still think this should be a legit debate tactic, I recommend you go do some experiments by putting yourself on the receiving end.
Shut up, stupid.

For once I agree with the dumb commies, lets do a revolution against UR. I'll deal with the commies after I gain power of this forum.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

It would be nice if people really did absorb new information and facts and change their opinions accordingly but most people do not do that. Logic is used as a tool to justify one's own opinion in many cases. If you are arguing with a fool why not call him a fool? BTW, Urban Ranger you are a nice person.

Most of the so called ad hominems on Poly aren't in fact ad hominem fallacies.
Usually, it is "you're an idiot, so we shouldn't believe you." This is not a fallacy because we do in fact take idiocy as grounds for not believing someone.
(of course these arguments aren't very good ones - but they aren't logically invalid).
the work is an extension of the creator so why isn't the creator up for the debate? thats the crux of my question
