We have a program like that here in Jacksonville, FL too.

Azazel, are you absolutely sure your no-kill shelters don't get rid of ecess animals. I thought so too until about two weeks ago. Then I learned differently.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Feral cats are a real problem, they are highly dangerous.

          More like five billion.
for some years I was under the impression that earth would become uninhabitable when our Sun became a red giant of such such size that it would possibly consume the entire earth. This phase of the suns life will be relatively short and indeed best estimates (based on a thorough understanding of the evolution of main sequence stars like our current sun) place it close to 5 billion years in the future when the sun will finally leave the main sequence. However, a couple years back it was determined that the earth would lose its entire oceans within only a few hundred million years and this would lead to lethal surface temperatures *long* before the sun would do it's red giant thing. This wasn't some flaky web based article either but I'm almost certain it was in Science and I may be able to find the issue. I tried googling for the information but it was too much of a pain to find it while excluding irrelevant short term global warming information. If I find it later I'll edit the post and cite it here. Suffice it to say that human beings appear to have evolved not at the middle of Earth's habitable lifespan but rather as close to the tail end of it as aerobic life was to the beginning

Do you know anything about the state of California?! We have one of the most graduated state income tax systems in the country. Trust me. The super-rich are paying more then their fair share.

They wouldn't be super-rich if they where.

Wrong, All they have to do is make money in things like Stocks or realestate and they don't have to pay taxes until they try to sell them. This is called a capital gain and it is well taxed plus the same money counts towards the person's yearly income so they have to pay income taxes on it as well.

You see we're smart enought to let them invest and make money so the economy keeps moving but we take 50%-60% from them when they try to cash out their chips.

@Geronimo: From what I heard, far from all geoscientists acept that scenario.

Our sun is currently halfway through it's life cycle and our solar system is approximately 4.66 billion years old. That means 4-5 billion years is a pretty good estimate for when the sun will reach it's red giant phase. Granted, the Earth's atmpsphere will be evaporated away a few hundred million years before that but we still have a loooooooooong time before that happens.

Just the opinion of one geo-scientist.

do you realize what all these programs have costed california. They are $38 billion in debt!

Who the **** is going to pay for all these pansy social programs?
Socialist programs ruined the state and has effected the university system. It is because of the damn democrats in the state that my classes are starting to get cut. I'm lucky I got a full set of classes this year. Cuts have to happen. Quite simple. There is just no money to pay for them. But who is responsible for all this debt? The democrats. The left wing in this state. People who hold similiar views to Sava. Arnold went to Sacramento with a mission to clean up this state from ridiculous tax and spend policies, and insanely idiotic welfare programs. He thus far is doing a great job. Thank goodness for him because this state is starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Financial growth can be reached. But of course economic growth is wrong under the left wing set of beliefs. It is evil.

This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

That's what I've been hearing from all my sources (dog owners who've adopted, etc.) It's a (mostly) dog shelter, though. Cats aren't put to sleep at all in our city ( There is enough traffic to take care of that animal population )
