  • it is untill the phase is completed i guess. there's no time limit for that but logically anyone can assume when the phase is over.

    1. shot
    2. bar or not bar
    3. goalkeeper saves doesnt save or gets the ball in
    4. the end.

although i guess it would be funny if the goalkeeper panickly would start joggling with the ball on his hands and couldnt get a grip for 10 seconds. heh
but theoretically i think that would count too untill the phase is over, which means untill the goalkeeper has finished.

the reasoning for bars counting though is that the goalkeeper participates in the phase

    • although i guess another thing is, what if the ball hits the bars and gets in?

      shouldnt this count?

but if this counts, as it does, then whatever happens next in the phase should count.

and if it hits the bars, then the goalkeeper and gets in it should count too.

anyway why worry? you're through little oranges

      • I do not worry, I do wonder

I worried about van Nistelrooy's goal that was rejected since he was (not) offside.
The replay clearly showed it was a fair goal, oh well, nothing to worry. We're in the semi's, we deserve it and we got rid of our penalty syndrom.

        • What if the ball hits in the bar, then hits the keeper, knocks him out, hits the ****ed-up penalty spot and rebounds of it back into the goal?

            I wonder......
Penalty shoots after the match ended in a draw are just about the shot on goal. It's not like if you miss and hit the bar, you can shoot it in as well (something you can do during the game)
So why is it a goal if the shooter hits the bar and the ball falls back into the field, and goes into the goal via the keeper?

The ball hits the bar and falls back into the field. That's it. What happens after that doesn't matter anymore....

            I really wonder about that.
I'm sure that I'm wrong, but it's strange though....
Referee Dik Jol explained the rules in this case, and you are very close to the truth CyberShy:

What matters is when the ball hits the field. If the ball bounces from the bar, then on the field, then the penalty is over and done with.

In yesterdays game, the ball bounced from the bar directly on van der Sar's back and into the goal, without hitting the field, and thus the penalty was only over when it crossed the goal-line.

What if it hits the bar, hits the field, and then because of spin on the ball, goes back into the goal?

              • Sounds fair to me, that it has to hit the ground.
But I do wonder about Park Avenue's last question though....

                • Invalid goal.

The way Dik Jol described it, the ball cannot hit the field AT ALL. Even a straight shot with a bounce on the field before it would cross the goal-line would make the penalty an invalid goal, and thus no score.

This makes taking penalties harder then you would think

Huh, wouldn't that make every penalty kick over the ground invalid?
As well as the Panenka style shots ( if it's bounces before the line).

Panenka's penalty didn't bounce before the line.
