The Green party candidate looks promising.

    His email is thefabulousmrx@hotmail.com

The Liberal candidate boasts a very intense background: he has a degree in agriculture:
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Has anyone actually gone to the www.stephenharpersaid.ca site thats been advertized on TV?

I like Martin, but that site actually made me like Harper more. He makes some good points, like having an elected senate, and making the country less Ottawa/Toronto-centric.

Edit: And the anti-Americanism is lame, you can be Canadian without being a Liberal.

Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada (man, they probably HATE the Communist Party)
        Yep.

The lone communist professor in our philosophy department always stands as the Communist Candidate for Toronto Centre. He gets mad if anyone dares suggest that they are the same as the ML's.

He always gets a fair few votes from the University - mostly from students as he is a very popular man among the philosophy grads (not for his politics, he's just a nice guy - although he is reputed to have never thrown away a pair of shoes). He got 121 last time, beating the ML candidate by five votes.

PS. Does anyone think that the Green candidate looks a bit like Asher sporting a liberal beard.

Just curious: Can you vote in Canada, Agathon?

Nope. I wouldn't bother anyway (unless it was to give Danny Goldstick [the Commie I mentioned] a sympathy vote) as the electorate I live in is not contested (solidly Liberal). I did have the pleasure in 2000 of making the Liberal Candidate explain to me on my doorstep the entire Liberal platform before informing her that I could not vote.

I have only voted seriously in New Zealand since proportional representation was introduced (I vote for the Greens - like Caligastia does). That's because I used to live in an uncontested electorate there when we had first past the post (our MP was a notorious conservative drunkard - one of his sons was a sometime boozing companion of mine).

I'm guessing this is your first go. Wait till you go to the polls and see the retards that democracy lets vote - you'll lose all faith in it.

Funny though - if you have lived in NZ for three months before the date of the election you can vote, citizen or not.

I've voted in provincial elections before, and munincipal, but this is my first federal.

I already know that voters are retards, that's why the liberals are incumbants.

Same goes for the conservatives. Big parties meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I voted for this dude - surely the finest man to grace the NZ Parliament and world famous for skateboarding to work (he even made the cover of the Toronto Star):

Do you still vote in the NZ elections, Aggie?

I voted in the last one as I was back in NZ at the time helping my mother nurse my father through his last illness. I even arranged a special vote for him as he said he'd be damned if he'd die under a National (Conservative) government - and he didn't.

I won't be eligible this time (if you have been out of the country for more than a year or so you aren't eligible). Not that I care much - the next election will be about race as the National Party has decided that its only hope of winning is to foment racial hatred, so no doubt the next election will be a tasteless affair.

He's a cool guy who has some strange ideas, but has turned out to be a competent politician. He managed to push the government into enacting legislation to wipe the slate clean for people who had committed minor offences instead of having their youthful indiscretions hang over them for the rest of their (law abiding) lives.

The MLs are Maoists (and cuckoo for cocoa-puffs). They're also big on Enver Hoxha for some reason.

The CP is your standard, old-line Stalinist party, although they're somewhat reformed of late. Last I checked, the leader of their "youth wing" was in his 40s, though.

Well I am in Jack Layton's riding, he is a shoe in. This was his riding (well half) when he was a city councillor and our MPP (MLA) is NDP (in Ontario the federal and provincial ridings are the same).

I hope the Liberals get 140-150 seats. It will give them a stable minority government and they will not need to form a formal coalition with any of the other parties allowing them to work with the Conservatives or the NDP/Bloc on an issue by issue basis.
