I'm really sorry to hear about your mother. Your father needs someone to lean on. Perhaps you can petition the army to extend your leave a bit so you can be with him. Failing that, try to get him some grief counseling. Many churches offer this and support groups gratis.

The funeral was kind of a relief - it happened after a long illness. But it took many months, even years, for us all to be able to laugh again.
My aunts never forgave my Dad for remarrying. As I can appreciate the hell he was in, I'm glad he did.
My heart is sad for you - but I have been there, and the pain will grow less so long as you let it out.

Well, my mother was very insistant that she didn't want a funeral nor a memorial. We still wanted to do something though so we had something like an Irish wake. Yesterday, we invited a bunch of friends and family over and then we looked at pictures and talked about things we remembered. It was really nice.
She requested that her body be cremated and when the process is done my father, sister, and I will rent a boat so we can scatter her ashes in the Pacific ocean off of California.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

So my two weeks of leave will be up tomorrow and I will be heading back to Iraq. I don't want to sound down but I really wish I could stay a bit longer. Last Saturday we finally got my mother's ashes from the crematorium and per her wishes we rented a sail boat and scattered her ashes in the Pacific Ocean off the coast at Point Loma. It was a quiet affair with just my father, sister, aunt (my mother's sister), and myself.
For the last three days I've been trying to shop for a town home here in San Diego. The prices have gotten absolutely unreal; last December I looked around and in most areas the housing prices have shot up 20%-30% in the last SIX MONTHS! The same design in the same complex that was going for $300,000 in December are now going for $400,000 in June.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

And my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the blackmarket man
I've had the Vietnam cold turkey

Re: your mother:
People die. Life goes on. Sad, yes, but I hope you've already got over it, no use in wasting your life just mourning for people you can't bring back to you anymore. If your father's in shock because of it, the best gift you can give to him is to come back alive from your job.Last edited by RGBVideo; June 15, 2004, 08:10.

My father seems to have gotten much better in the last two weeks. I would say he was very shocked initially though.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
