No joke. Just a backhanded insult to people that quote themselves as if they've made a new or interesting point that should be forced on the rest of us.

Rummy already got a public reprimand, which from this admin. is a huge slap. BUt getting rid of him?

Chairman Myers would be a good pic-he goes on TV to say he had not yet seen the report? Hello!
Myers should go on the general principal that I don't think the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of JCS should be anything other than Army and USMC, but Myers and JCS are not a part of the chain of command, and wouldn't routinely receive this type of theater command or investigative report unless it was directed to them from the office of the SecDef or the President.

Rummy is a political appointee, so getting rid of him or not is a political move, not a fix to the real problem. Senior officers need to be relieved and separated from service, or imprisoned and dishonorably discharged, depending on their degree of culpability. Only real and direct judicial action on those in real authority will assure that the message gets across.

You mean like keeping the Army too small to reasonably accomplish all the missions it is now tasked with, while promoting funding for more of the usual techno-pie-in-the-sky?

Or failing to force the USMC to update it's casualty prone doctrine significantly from the days of "Remember the Mayaguez?"

                        That good work?

                        • I was thinking about this. My grandfather spent 5 years in a German POW camp and he never saw any beatings or anything like this.

I guess the Germans saved that for their other camps.

                            So they're not POWs?

Funny definition. Is there anyone who isn't an unlawful warrior according to American standards?

I didn't say they were or weren't. IIRC, some are non-combat prisoners, such as looters, thieves, etc., some are POW's, some are Baath Party types, etc. who may be under one status or another.

I was refering to the situation when you immediately take a prisoner in the field, and at that point, their status is undetermined. Reality is that you'll question them about who they're with, in what force, etc., or whatever other useful info you need to know at the moment. Then they get sent down the line and processed as prisoners, and the rules are a bit different once you have them in real custody.

                              • Where are you heading to? Do you think that the Convention allows torture just to determine the status of a prisoner?
