US Airforce in region according to Global Security:

    425 aircraft of all types

    175 helicopters

    220 Tomahawks

Also it has been reported that the insurgents have anti-air capability.I am not saying that it is incurably bad, but it does not look as if the US air component is very high, especally since the US has lost the initiative.

      Triplemoron.

Anti-air capability? How so? you mean SA-7 launchers? Useless. Those are too inaccurate to do anything half decent. They can't have AA-guns or SAM launchers because those would taken out almost immediately. 425 aircraft is very high. Again you prove your arrogance about military strategy. The US has lost the intiative? OVER MY DEAD BODY.

The US lost initiative only in Fallujah, and right now it's difficult to say who has it in there, more likely no one has it there right now. Looking at those numbers, I'd say US pretty much OWNS the air there. They might have some AA capabilities, but they're not showing it now, so it's irrelevant at this point of discussion.

Giancarlo, I read somewhere they would have SA-16 too. Those are very effective in an area like Iraq right now in this situation. But, can insurgents really implement proper tactics with them, that haven't been seen yet. Future will tell, I predict they can't capitalize on that right now or in the near future.

I don't think they have any functioning SA-16s. I think they only have older ones with limited ranges. But afterall they can't have better fixed anti-aircraft weapons systems because they would be blown to pieces.

              Troops in or near Bagdad.

              12,000 1st armoured divsion
              15.000 1st Cavalry Division

Ramadiyah (70 miles west of Baghdad)

              10.000 82nd Airborne Divsion Ramadiyah

Why can't these forces keep the roads around Baghdad open? Or keep the CPA headquarters in Baghdad safe from mortar attacks? It looks to me that they are just sitting in their bases.

You can't have troops in every square mile of the country. And when enemy combatants are disguised as civilians it gets a little difficult. They aren't sitting anywhere.... the troops are going out and are going after these militants. That is what the operations have been about.

Wow, look at all the first graders debating in this thread...why, it so pathetic.

On Zapatero-he stated he would withdraw troops by (not on, not after, by) JUne 30th unless there was a UN mandate in place in Iraq. What he said is that he does not believe there will be a UN mandate in Iraq on June 30 or after (the UN prepresentative has created a plan for the form of a caretaker government-does not mean a UN mandate), and he does not see the possibility either (and given pronouncements by Bush, he is probalby correct), so Spanish troops will leave.

UNless the definition of the word by was ammended recently, he is doing what he said he would. As for international condemnation? From who, the mouth-breathing raving nuts on the right? (Fez?) Well, they don't really matter, now do they?

Fun with bolding gone wrong for Fezzie pooh

Or perhaps Fez forgot wat a deadline means? If you have, it means the last possible moment. You remain free to act prior to the deadline.

Oh, but I guess according to Fez, anyone who does their US income taxes prior to April 15th is a damned liar..not meeting their deadline.

"Of" is the key word here. Don't play Bill Clintonisms with me.. I don't need every word defined. He said the deadline was June 30th.
