i prefer taking 1 down to santa cruz. especially on the afternoons when rush hour is brutal. I also get to stop in half moon bay and eat a burrito from tres amigos. good times.

I drove from San Mateo to Seattle, made it in 12 hours, loved it up around shasta, bout the only interesting thing.

I once drove from San Diego to Seattle via I5 in 19.5 hours. Stopped only for gas and ate pre packaged junk food so I'd make better time.

No no no, 110 is deadly especially north of I-10.

When you re trying to get on, you barely can see the traffic behind you and they all are going like 80-90 mph! Also because of the steep curve of entrances into the freeway and the extremely short distance of the space you have before you have to get on the freeway itself, you're going like 5 to 10 mph. It's also only two lanes wide and there are a lot of curves so drivers often don't really see you until they're right on you especially if they're yakking away on their damn cells.

Last night I visited a friend in Newport Beach, I went on 2, 5, 60, 710, 405, then finally 73. All in the space of an hour

That's some cool stuff, guys. I really like driving on freeways, so maybe I'll do it some time, like rent a car, and drive through the west coast. ( I am planning to do western European highways first, tho)

This thread does have an expiration date of sorts:

The team of scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles, predict that a quake will occur within a 12,000-square-mile area east of Los Angeles by Sept. 5. The zone includes a large swath of the Mojave Desert, the Coachella Valley, the Imperial Valley and eastern San Diego County.
                            Only a few more days...

I don't remember the highways in france being esp. bumpy, but I was just a kid then, and it was a huge ass bus....
