  • Riots in Kosovo. Albanians attack Greek peacekeepers

Approximatively 1,000 Albanian protestors attacked the Greek peacekeeping team of 15 soldiers who have assumed the safekeeping of the Church of Saint Ourou in Urocevac. According to information the Albanians threw a grenade against the Greek soldiers having as result the destruction of an armored vehicle VBL and a soldier having light burns on his face.

I guess burning all the churches they found in Kosovo, ripping apart all the icons and commiting sacrilege on anything dear to christian orthodox religion wasn't enough for them

You said nothing about why they did what they did.

Because Albanians are accusing Serbs that they've drowned 3 boys. That is after Albanian doctors let 2 Serbian children die by refusing to provide them with medical attention.

      So, let's burn a church?

Article? I'd like to read more and find out a reason.

"threw a grenade against the Greek soldiers having as result the destruction of an armored vehicle VBL and a soldier having light burns on his face. "

A grenade did that to an armored vehicle? Hmmm.... don't you greeks know how to make military vehicles?

Wow, it's good to see how love flows freely around there. Glad the peaekeepers are protecting the church, or we'd see even more sectarian hatred, as if there wasn't enough

I've just written a long post explaining my stance on the issue, but I deleted it. I'm not really in the mood for arguing this. Just for the sake of clarity, it had to be said what was the immediate cause of the violence.

It's obvious that they did something to deserve it. After all they are there as part of occupying power.

The area is hopelessly resource poor btw. And Kosovo and Albania are the only territories on European continent with a population growth.

Suffice to say it won't resemble Switzerland anytime soon.

Why are Greeks even allowed in Kosovo with their long standing support of Slobodan Milosevich who massacred Albanians?

The good thing of this is that noone was killed not protestors or peacekeepers, although one soldier will have something to show back home. It would have been much worse if there was deaths. And the church which I think is medieval and of great symbolic importance was saved as well.

You're wrong about that. It has huge minerals and before the war a mining business which provided much much richness to Yugoslavia. I thought you would know that.

This is a smart question. The reply is probably - nobody gives a **** about Greeks

On the serious side, peacekeepers mainly are without too much bias. There have been hordes of them in many Balkan countries in the last decade and there weren't many incidents AFAIR. The most notable is when Russians rushed into Kosovo before anyone else and were greeted by the Serbian population.
