        Hysterical.

I'm also reminded of the very first Man Show, when they went out and collected signatures to "end the suffrage of women."

Not really. There's no practical reason that a person would want to call water Dihydrogen Monoxide.

What's sad is people's blind faith in anything that sounds scientific.

Don't feel bad, Az (not that you were ). I have a chemical engineering degree and was sitting here thinking "Dang, I'd have to consult my 10th grade chemistry book to be sure of the correct name."

I believe you're right, though, that with the O at -2, it's hydrogen oxide.

              That was so funny.

Oooh, so it is easier now to screw with school kids doing their homework with fake informational orgs! The net takes one great leap forward.
You can give it a try, but I know that at least my school covers this particular gag in chemistry. After being put to shame like most of us were, it's not exactly something you forget. Sad though that some people still fall for this.

Hell thats nothing, The Man Show guys went around asking women to sign a petition to end Woman's Sufferage Now, "My sister, my Mother,my Aunt all sufferaged",etc playing on the fact that the word sounds like suffering. Only 1 or 2 women out of the 50 or so that they asked knew what it was.

Hmmm, according to my chem teacher it's monoxide. According to him, all molecules use the mono- prefix, and since oxygen-hydrogen is covalent it's a molecule.

that was back when the show actually showed streaks of inteeligence amidst all of the bracado, and panyshots. I remeber that though. Quite funny

What kind of chem teacher do you have?

Consider CaO. It's calcium oxide, not calcium monoxide. And CaO is a molecule dispite being ionic.

CaO isn't a molecule. Molecules are formed with COVALENT bonds only.
