You know that's true. I invoke Godwin's Law! Adolf Hitler deserved to be murdererd.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Really, almost. I don't see why those who blindly supported the humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan in order to arrest a few thugs are less desserving of death or starvation than the Afghan refugees.

On another level, incompetent politicians who undertake murderous trade policies on behalf of their citizens share they part of the responsibility.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

              • I'd say so. It's essentially the position your argueing for by offering political cover for murdering civilians in the name of a cause you happen to like.

                • No, I was not refering to this specific case. In fact, I did provide the Afghanistan example to move the debate on American soil.

First off there already was a humanitarian disaster. If anything Afghanistan has gotten better. They have been having a steady amount of rainfall for about a year now.

Aznar is also not incompetent, you fool.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

Well, if my point was that people who blindly follow policies that end up encouraging terrorism are, in some way, asking for it, I don't know how you can link that with Madrid's bombing, which was accomplished by a group with obviously no cause at all. A 'criminal cult', as said by Chegitz.

EDIT: if, of course, the ETA turns out to be responsible.

                        • They all have causes and justifications for what they do. ETA hangs its hat on Basque nationalism. I fail to see how that provides any sort of justification for killing civilians.

Which is a stupid point, because you only apply it to those on the side of the US

For example, wouldn't you say Saddam was blindly following policies that ended up encouraging American agression (however unjustified)? Aren't the Palestinians blindly following policies that end up encouraging Israeli retaliation? Since the Palestinians are "asking for it", it's fine to just bomb them however you want, right?

That's the fallacy everyone loves when discussing terrorism. EXPLAINING an act, is in no way providing for a moral JUSTIFICATION.

I never said justified, I said 'had it coming'. Agathon provided an excellent explanation for this retributivist behavior you are showing, in his 'moral is not a zero sum game' post.

EDIT: this post could also be considered an answer to Skywalker.
