Why, how do you judge it?

(The 5% was more to point out the difference with standard Tuborg, that AFAIK is lighter then the export version.
At least I read or heard it somewhere, so no I don't just judge it on the amount of alcohol inside, though I do want some in, no acohol-free beer !!! )

At present I'm just a beginner, I was myself looking for recipes.

You should give it a go, GePap. Cleanliness is everything. Bleach everything and then rinse well to prevent excess Chlorine from killing the yeast.

I've done a decent Oatmeal Stoudt (a bit too sweet didn't get the conversion I wanted, I should have agitated a bit better in the fermenting and finishing stage). My triple Bock was good to average.

        My ale was iffy.

I've heard it's a bit easier to make the darks as my expereince shows.

Someday I want to actually grind my own malts. Takes a bit of patience and time of which both are short supply these days.

Anyone who denigrates American beer has not tasted anything from Brooklyn Brewery, Sam Adams, Great Lakes or Sierra Nevada.

Great Lakes Brewery in Cleveland are probably my favorite at the moment. Their Christmas Ale is NECTAR!!

That might be the same one I remember while dating my wife. I forget the name of the troy microbrewery and restauraunt we used to frequent but they had a to die for Oatmeal Stoudt and some killer steamed clams in beer and garlic.

Living in a small apartment with a small kitchen, home brewing is beyond my possibilities. Besides, I have access to fine inexpensive beers (from the eastern block) in the neighborhood.

What in taste-that is the question.

For example, Budweiser does not taste bad per se, it tastes weak, diluted, can barely feel hops, has no distinction whatsoever. Only very cold is it passable, and that is only becuase when a drink its cold enough taste will always be muted. That is why they tell you to drink those cheap lagers so cold, when in fact they should be like at 50 degrees, not 40 degrees or less.

The strangest beer experience I had was with the smoked beer-it smelt like sausage-very powerful smell-yet it tasted OK. But I would not recommend it becuase the smell is part of the experience.
