  • Bush backs Gay Marraige Ban Amendment

The Mayor of San Francisco has achieved his objective. Bush now supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush backed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage Tuesday, saying he wants to stop activist judges from changing the definition of the "most enduring human institution."

Marriage cannot be severed from its cultural and moral roots, Bush said, urging Congress to approve such an amendment.

"After more than two centuries of American jurisprudence and millenia of human experience, a few judges and local authorities are presuming to change the most fundamental institution of civilization," the president said. "Their action has created confusion on an issue that requires clarity."

Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said in advance of Bush's announcement that the president wanted to end "growing confusion" that has arisen from court decisions in Massachusetts, and San Francisco's permitting more than 3,000 same sex unions.

Hell, I would to. It's never going to get passed and it makes for a nice bone to throw to your base.

If I had any reservations about voting Bush out of office come November, this certainly would have gotten rid of them.

/me awaits ben kenobi to come in this thread and parrot his "LOL GAYS CAN MARRY! THEY JUST HAVE TO MARRY THE OTHER SEX" argument AGAIN

Kerry and Edwards will both dance in the middle of the road because the repukes have made this an issue.

I think this illustrates how much of a ****ing moron bush is and how much disrespect he has for civil rights, equality, the constitution, and America in general.

yeah let's put weddings in the ****ing constitution while were at it, let's put something in there for birthdays and barmitzvas too

and conservatives, I thought you dopes didn't like the federal government telling you what to do... I guess you turn a blind eye to authoritarian crap like this

I can't believe this is an issue that is EVEN BEING DEBATED. We're "debating" whether or not we should actively discriminate against gay people.

Which shrinks rapidly again thanks to his own silliness. Meanwhile, his opponents now have another bat to bash him.

Mr Bush now has nothing to recruit moderate voters, every time he opens his mouth he inserts his foot in there. It does look very likely that he will be out

The point is he won't get anything else other than his base, which consists of Christian fundamentalists.

I very much doubt that. I'm expecting another close election barring something remarkable happening (WMD being found in Iraq, OBL being led through NY City in chains, etc.).

PS What are you going to do about the DL in our midst?

Does this Decision from Bush surprise me? Definitely not.

After all Bush seems to have close ties to christian Fundamentalism (didn´t he convert to get rid of his Alcoholism?)

SO it would´ve been more of a surprise if he had supported gay marriages.
