    That's not innovation, that's stupidity.

    • Not really. It would recognize your particular voice, so someone else couldn't activate it even if they knew the password.

Unnecessary, unless you have no arms, though.

See, that's innovation and R&D. What Apple does is take techniques developed like this, and introduces them to the marketplace, usually well before they're ready (see: speech recognition passwords). People who don't know any better attribute this to Apple being innovative.

          Part 2: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...l_tjeerd_2.asp

It's an interview with Hillel Cooperman and Tjeerd ("cheered") Hoek of the Windows User Experience team at MS. They talk about how Hillel was a former Machead (switched after XP was released), and they talk about OS X's interface a bit.

          • Yeah, right. Apple has had full speech recognition working since OS 9. It works perfectly, even with my strange accent.

I can walk into the room and tell my computer to get my mail and it works just fine. It's a pity that Apple has left room for other companies like IBM to develop dictation software, because I'd like to be able to dictate email by voice. I can already tell the machine to bring up a compose email window and tell it who to send it to.

            Strange but fun.

It's amusing that you insist speech recognition is perfect in its state right now. It's also amusing that no one in the industry would agree with you.

That should say a lot about your credibility with such things.

Wow, I was just about to write Mr. Nice Guy off as a complete idiot, but then he comes along and posts this completely spot-on appraisal of everyone's favorite MS employee. Good work.

                HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
