I just saw on CNN that the woman announced to the Associated Press that there was no affair between her and Kerry, and that the press has done nothing but cause her and her family excessive embarrassment over something that never happened.

I saw that too. They said Drudge got the story from other media looking into a rumor. They did not mention Drudge's statement that he got the story from Clark (or a Clark aid).

The CNN story amounted to a hit piece on Drudge.

NOONE other than you right now has tried to claim that Drudge got the entire story from a Clark aid. At the best, Drudge tried to use a quote from Clark as support of what he had found, possibly suggesting that the quote suggesting that Kerry had a hidden intern scandal got him to find the story in the first place. (The original quote was definately vague rather than specific.)

Ramo, the doctored photo is a different photo. The doctored photo is black and white and shows Kerry standing above a microphone.

Mordoch, rather than flipping back to post #1 in this thread, here is the relevant passage from Drudge's initial report,

"A close friend of the woman first approached a reporter late last year claiming fantastic stories -- stories that now threaten to turn the race for the presidency on its head!

In an off-the-record conversation with a dozen reporters earlier this week, General Wesley Clark plainly stated: "Kerry will implode over an intern issue." [Three reporters in attendance confirm Clark made the startling comments.]"

"No one has taken a stand or made a valid criticism of anything since Iowa, and I don't see that changing anytime before the general election", commented an Edwards campaign staffer. "Issue free and proud to be!", was Senator Kerry's response to a question last night in a televised "debate".
