There's a bugzilla bug for Firefox to implement most of TBE's features natively for improved performance

I like TBE so far. It is really nice. I enjoy the 'load bar' showing you how much has been loaded.

Now I just have to bring up a .pdf to see if Firefox has fixed that.

I didn't really like Word 97, but it was better than 2000

Most people who use Word don't know how to use it, and would be better off using WordPad.

I never had any problems with .PDF files even with Firebird 0.7 on Linux. Oddly enough, the implementation of PDF reader is very stable.

Isn't Latex a set of macros for Tex?

basically Latex and Tex are the same thing, you can do some things easier in Latex though.

WinEdt is a frontend that I like.

Yea, I have always used the quickest dirtiest word processor available. Word suffers from the same problem as Word Perfect did. The vast majority of people aren't law office workers or doctoral candidates and don't need a word processor designed for such people. I'm sure Word is a wonderful program for those who need it, but to me it's slow, big and the sheer number of features make finding out about the few simple ones I need much more time consuming.

                        • Firefox is brilliant!

                          I'm using it now.

                          • word is great. so is abiword. openoffice writer would be good if it didn't take so ****ing long to load (well, by so ****ing long i mean not instantly)

as far as firefox: the compiling isn't from cvs--it's a gentoo ebuild, which means it downloads the official release source, and then compiles it using settings i've set beforehand. it's, i've found, a much better package management system than apt, rpm, or tgz, because a lot of it is automated, fire-and-forget, with easy install and uninstall.

its only drawback now is that there are few binaries put into the system (there's nothing preventing more from being inserted other than the community's inertia/philosophy), but i don't mind spending the time to compile what i need. if it's too big, i can live without it (openoffice, kde).

firefox itself is fine, but i haven't found a reason to move to it from opera.

It always crashed my browser... and does the same for Firefox it seems . Oh well, guess I'll have to use IE for them.

                              • What version of Acrobat Reader do you use? I use Acrobat Professional 6.0 and it doesn't crash it.
