  • Hmmm. I managed to miss the bit about Dallaglio being back in the saddle. It seems there are a few who wouldn't miss it if he weren't ...

"What sort of message does the appointment of Dallaglio to the captaincy of the English rugby union team, send to the kiddies?

"English sport has been littered with drug scandals from Linford Christie to Greg Rusedski very recently.

"With the authorities seemingly unwilling to respond in any meaningful way to the problem of drugs in sport, my heart sinks to find that behaviour such as Dallaglio's is effectively condoned. I am not an unforgiving man, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

"Its simply not good enough for we Brits, especially when we have derided other nations, such as the Australians (Tune, Warne) for lesser evils, to have Lawrence, combative forward as he may be, to captain England."
On the bright side though, being even older than his highness the-most-recently-retired King Jonno the somethingth, we can still trundle out the old theme.

    Everybody now , ...

"Who-o-o do you thinnnk you are kidding Mr Hitler, ..."

That, or he's as outraged as I am by the naive piece of whitewashing judicial claptrap posing as the Hutton Report!
I personally spent all day Wednesday in an anger induced form of narcolepsy.

Don't worry- I do it in English and then introduce them needlessly into Spanish.
My guess would be that you write a foreign language better than most English speaking people, even the smart ones, can say one.
Last time I went to France, I was amazed at how much English everyone spoke and how much they were willing to help if you spoke even the most basic French.

Yep. They line up where they think the votes are.
Just to the right of centre. You have to admire, at some level, the way they don't let old fashioned things like principles, values or moral scruples get in the way of this.
Not that the others are any better. They are just less intelligent at manipulating voters.

His dalliance - great word that, and the first three letters of his name - with white powder aside, it was his complete and utter ego - read stupidity - that actually sank him for the offence. With a dolt like that in charge of the England team, who needs Austin Healey around?

Well, Havak's ongoing absence speaks volumes, doesn't it. (The absence of a question mark obviously indicating the rhetorical)

Better than most of my family, anyway.

Last time I went to France, I was amazed at how much English everyone spoke and how much they were willing to help if you spoke even the most basic French.
              Outside Paris, anyway.

Just to the right of centre? Still, I can't quibble. Our Labour Opposition has spent the last seven years trying to get further right than the incumbent neo-Thatcherite government.

                • Yes that Dad's army really struggled in the world cup didn't it? Those French and Aussie youngsters really out them to the sword.

Dally is a poor choice - IMO a poor skipper. But then all the younger options are crocked right now. The skipper will be appointed game by game - expect it to be Vickery ASAP.

As you may have surmised I am out of the office - back in tomorrow. I have no chance of catching up wth all that cricket prattle though.

His credibility will never recover from this for me I suspect. I'm labour to the core - but the party is bigger than one man.

Thanks, this is also what are saying Havak and Finbar, but I have promised the first I will offer him a drink at the Frog&Rosbif should Leicester come here to play against the Stade Toulousain and the latter is desperate enough to have thought about me as a son-in-law for his step-daughter. Their judgement might be... biased.

It must be a recent trend, my compatriots were rather known for their rudeness with the foreigners and their inability to speak even a few words of another language.

On my at least half a dozen trips to France, I've always found les grenouilles - outside the bigger cities - helpful if you make an attempt. And the further away from the cities you get, the more helpful they are.

What bothers me even more is the opportunity now for a government to geld the BBC. Just as the government here has done to the ABC without an excuse like the Hutton Report.

You're too late! She's taken up with a landscape architect. Still, I suppose that's preferable to her usual motley choice - actors!

Could have been worse, imagine a rugbyman.

Instead of another actor? You obviously haven't met any actors.
