Just look at the historical precedents -- starting from Jefferson's retraction of condeming the slave trade in the Declaration of Independence under threats from Southern Congressmen withdrawing their support for independence.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

No, no...he's right. The war was about slavery.
I would fight today for the South for just that reason. The right to determine our own fate within the bounds of the constitution (strict constructionist view). To say that this makes me racist is just crap."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. Plato, it all boils down to that slavery was thr root cause. There wouldn't be any cultural and economic differences between the regions if it weren't for slavery.Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

The war was not about the moral right to slavery. It contained the elements of being about a State's right to determine the issue.

In this case, states' rights was a means towards preserving . . . . . . .
slavery.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
