anybody who says they would fight for the south is a racist. Don't give me the antebellum crap. It was a war to preserve slavery. Slavery ended roight smack quick after it.

No, no...he's right. The war was about slavery.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Just look at the historical precedents -- starting from Jefferson's retraction of condeming the slave trade in the Declaration of Independence under threats from Southern Congressmen withdrawing their support for independence.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

The war was not about the moral right to slavery. It contained the elements of being about a State's right to determine the issue.

I would fight today for the South for just that reason. The right to determine our own fate within the bounds of the constitution (strict constructionist view). To say that this makes me racist is just crap.

Plato, it all boils down to that slavery was thr root cause. There wouldn't be any cultural and economic differences between the regions if it weren't for slavery.

yeah...and it just so happened that the reason all these states wanted to leave was to keep the power of life/death locked around the black man's neck. Slavery was a miserable institution and you are lined up with the death-dealers. John brown was right.

States rights is always a means to an end over whatever issue is fought over -- much less than as being a principle.

                    In this case, states' rights was a means towards preserving . . . . . . .

                    slavery.
