'Tis the season for holiday cheer...at my expense, apparently.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

It is in the same spirit as XCom, but by no means is it a sequal. There is a thread in the Other Games forum that is over 400 posts long on Aftermath. Finding it is left as an exercise to the reader.

Oh, and sniper rifles are so good they are considered broken. There are mods available that rebalance the weapons in the game so that sniper rifles do more damage but take much longer to aim with.

      But enough threadjacking.

The Judge Dredd movie. The only good thing about it is that I'd decided by about half way through that I'd really like to have sex with Diane Lane (preferably just out of her judge's uniform).

I can't believe that someone thought that knuckle dragging idiot Sylvester Stallone should play Dredd. He can barely manage to portray a mentally defective Italian (if that is a portrayal).

What's so awful about Judge Dredd is that it ruined the prospect of films featuring the greatest comic character ever created from the greatest comic ever created.

I will tolerate no dissent: at it's height (the first 350 or so issues) Judge Dredd was the greatest comic strip ever created. And at the same time 2000AD was the finest comic ever and Dredd was its showpiece.

I don't know if 2000AD ever made it to the states, but it was sheer brilliance from cover to cover in almost every issue. Along with JD; Slaine, ABC Warriors, Strontium Dog and Sam Slade were classics. I've never seen a comic to match it.

The movie even managed to leave out Otto Sump and "Get Ugly" which along with the Fatties and Umpty Candy were some of the coolest things about Mega City One.

In short a fine character mashed to bits by writers who failed in every way it is possible to fail.

Or maybe Judge Dredd sucked the entire time, and you just now realized it.

' The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'- a comic book series brimful of good ideas, succulent plotlines, an erudite creator, and engaging literary creations.

'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'- a film of banality beyond the bounds of ennui, a triumph of effects over imagination, a bludgeoning over the head of the viewing public with the blindingly obvious, and an object lesson in not allowing a star to override a director.

Poor Alan Moore- will no one make a good film from one of his books (whither 'Watchmen', 'V for Vendetta', etc...)?

'Hollow Man'. The concept is hardly an original one, but it has MUCH more potential than what was used in that movie, which was basically lots of running around a lab, and doing jack****.

                Deus Ex 2, the game.
The original was rated at around 80 hours of gameplay. Challenging gameplay.
Deus Ex 2 is rated at around 12 hours gameplay. Gameplay that wouldn't even challenge a hyperactive kid with ADD.

'Paycheck', the new movie coming out. Based on my favorite Philip K. **** short story (a REALLY good one), it was ruined when the director was Woo and Affleck was cast for Jennings. Can't anyone do a faithful adaptation of ****'s works?

Pirates of the Carribean was indeed better than I had thought it was going to be, though I thought that Capt. Jack's swagger and his makeup was a little exaggerated.

I'm playing Deus Ex II right now. I tend to agree that the game is fairly easy. But the thing I miss most from the original game is the lack of skill points. I thought that feature of the original game was its best feature and one of the things that made Deus Ex unique among the first-person shooter genre.

In many respects, Deus Ex II is a dumbed down Deus Ex, just as Civilization III Is a dumbed down version of Alpha Centauri. One begins to wonder whether the skill level of the programmers and designers of sequels may be reason. The true geniuses may have moved on to creating new concepts.

By the way, I still think that Vietcong is the best first-person shooter that I have played. The game is exceedingly hard even on "easy," but there is no substitute for the shouting and screaming of one's comrades in this jungle flight. Makes any other game seem bland and empty by comparison. Vietcong has personality.

A little? Real pirates from that time would have had him and to a rail.

Vince, I'm sure you're aware that sexually explicit posts aren't allowed here on Apolyton. Now go edit that out before one of the gay guys see it!

(and I'm still shocked that the link to the pornographic site is still on another post elsewhere in the OT.)

Sorry. You also realize, of course, that the thread topic has the word "suck" in it twice.
