    CIVILIZATION III
yes I said it... and even with the mods afterwards, the game still sucks. Civ2: Test of Time is where the Civ series peaked. I only hope there is a Civ 4 that could possibly save the Civ series.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Imran, edit your post: Prequals to what? (Star Wars, I know, but still it would help eliminate the crosspost effect.)

I enjoyed Aftermath but it was a little odd. The weapons inventory had way too many weapons from East European countries. Its not like I'd find alot of that scattered around the U.S. I guess the designers were letting a little of their own biases show through.

The aliens (and others) had good resistance against their own weapons but very little against good old fashioned bullets. I kicked butt through an entire game with little else besides sniper rifles.

You're entitled to your wrong opinions...

I think I play it about 3 hours a day.

I'd have to say big disappointments have included the second Matrix (haven't seen the third), the ending of Fallout 3 (yes, Black Isle was hard at work when Interplay shut the company down), and Y2K not coming to fruition.

I agree seeing the second Matrix didn't have the profound effect seeing the first did, but what do you expect? what other SUPER SECRET or plot twist could they have? I liked the second matrix just as much as the first because I wasn't expecting to be WOWED the same way the first did. The whole ZION scene was ****, but the highway chase scene made up for it. The highway chase scene, next to the Bespin lightsaber fight in Empire strikes back; is one of my top favorite scenes of all time in a movie.

There were just little things that didn't sit well with me. Persephone was one of them. As much as I love watching Monica Bellucci, there was little point to her character. There were too many multi-Agent Smith scenes. Stuff like that.

On the other side, what else could Civ 3 have been (I know a few things personally, I just want to know what you have)

                    1. scalable map size... (super-zoomed-in and super zoomed-out don't blow my skirt up...) or windowed... like Civ2.

                    2. better combat... I think they regressed the combat model. They should have built upon the concepts in Civ2... firepower, hit points, etc...

                    3. the same sea movement bull****... 100 years for a modern battleship to circumnavigate the "globe" if you can even call it a globe

                    4. the cylinder map... sooo STUPID...

                    5. can't upgrade units in the army (minor detail... but effectively makes armies useless)

                    6. trade is pointless

                    7. functions too much like Civ 2... 10 damn years or so and we still are dealing with plains, grassland, ocean... how about creating a climate model and having REALISTIC TERRAIN?!?!? How about when you cut down all the trees on the entire planet... THE CLIMATE CHANGES...

                    8. too many bugs... too many damn "expansions" which really just should have been the original damn game.

by the time conquests came out, I was sick and tired of Civ3. I played each successive Xpack for a little bit, found more bugs or things that sucked and gave up, hoping each Xpack later would FINALLY give me what Civ 3 should have been in the first place.

DMAN IT ! I WASTED ALL THAT MONEY!

                    now I feel better.

I agree with a few of your points. However, don't you think that too much emphasis on microdetails (trees leading to climate changes, complex combat model) would make the game tedious?

I do agree with some of them, though...but the difference between our experiences is I was able to look past them

If it makes you feel better (misery loves company), I bought PtW as a stand alone and installed it, only to be informed later THAT DAY that C3C had already been released and included PtW.
