    The Phantom Menace.

Even after a few decades have passed, revealing SW to be not-as-good-as-remembered, nothing prepared me for the craptitude that was the Phantom Penis. My god, that movie sucked! From the stilted acting (except for the robots) to the boring and quasi-offensive characters (yousa knowsa whosa) to the sheer unbelievable-ness of a 10 year old kid... hell, I can't remember what he did at the end of the movie to save the day, but I do remember rolling my eyes for 8 straight minutes, this was one SERIOUSLY suck-ass movie.

And it could've been so much better - even a rise to mediocrity could've doubled its box-office.

So, what sucks (or sucked) that frankly should've been better?

He was a waste of computer resources, a waste of space on the screen, and a waste of my ability to hear, see, and comprehend.

I would go beyond the Phantom Menace to include all prequels, since Ep. III will undoubtedly also suck.

Sum of All Fears (movie) should not have sucked so much. Tom Clancy had written a great book that could have easily been made into a movie; those idiots in Hollywood butchered the book for the sake of PC, and for the sake of attracting teenie-boppers.

All the Batman movies after the first Keaton one, in 1989 - they should not have sucked so much. I can't comprehend what goes on inside the heads of these directors/producers.

In the history of the world and in times to come there is only one thing that sucked and should have been better. Nothing else in the universe could possibly take it's place. Millions waited patiently for so so long only to be totally alienated and have their wallets raped.

That one thing that the creator of should be destroyed for screwing up is "The Phantom Menace".

Pointe final. How could anything else possibly suck so bad when it should have been great?

          Oh and Lucas sux badly.

            Being a gaming forum...

Vanilla Civ3; patches/expansions made up for most of it.

Call to Power series; tried not to suck, modding community picking up the slack...

Vanilla Moo3; patches try to make up the difference...

Vanilla Simcity 4; patches/expansions making up for most of it.

The entire Battlecruiser 3000AD series. And yet they keep trying...
            Insanity, noun:

Repeating the same action, over and over without variation, expecting a different outcome each time.

Also see: Battlecruiser 3000AD, Interplay, 3000AD Inc.
Outpost; patches did diddly-squat, and they made an equally bad sequel. God this game had potential...

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation; patches only helped mildly.

Star Trek: Starship Creator; total waste of money. Again, had so much potential squandered

            Every follow-up game to X-Com;

            EDIT: ...without...
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Dude I used to think that Meier sucked but really, Lucas sux even more and on a more grandiose scale.

At least Meier made it up to us with C3C.

I still play Classic Civilization and Colonization from time to time.

At no point did I ever feel Meier sucked. You're a dirty heathen, CM. Get thee from my sight...

Sure did, I liked that game, but it became monotonous.

C&C: Tiberian Sun: Elaborate cut scenes, a semi-famous cast, a whole new game engine, voxels, and an evil super villian bent on taking over the world. Hell, Cain even had a part in Red Alert. Somehow they just tried to do to much and ended up ruining that particular storyline.

Civ3: Yeah, that's right, all you Civ3 lovers. It took a lifetime for a turn to be over plus the controls were slow. For a game of micromanagement this is a no-no.

Understood friend but allow me to defend my words.

After purchasing vanilla civ3 LE I felt violated. Out of the box it was broken, I was missing my designers notes, and the cd came in a paper envelope. That experience woke me up to the realities of corporate greed at the expense of the working joe.

And now I shall take a shower so at least I'll just be a heathen.

That's a sad but true statement about almost all corporations: they're filled almost entirely with people out for money. Almost gone are the days when programers actually enjoyed making their games for the sake of making them. Yes, they've always strived to make it profitable, but at least they tried to enjoy their work while they're doing it. Now, many companies just try to peddle crapware marketed as "New and Improved, Better ThAn The Other Guys' And Not Like Your Old Crap At All...Really, Honest..." Not just software, but any industry. All work and no joy. Very few are given the opportunity to get creative without greedy higher-ups vetoing their every move solely based as a function of time and money: Immediately and Obscene (Unrealistic) Returns.

Oh, and use mashed bananas. They cleanse you of your sins...

Other games that suck but shouldn't have: Age of Wonders II, Railroad Tycoon II, Tropico, Starfleet Command, etc.

And no, my post above was not a thread-jack. In many cases of Sucked-But-Shouldn't've, Money-vs-Quality was/is/will be the issue. The people peddling the product want to make the money while the grunts making the product want to do quality work (enjoying their work and being proud of it). Guess who wins...

UR, I noticed it today at the mall; never heard of it before. Is it really of the same bloodline as X-Com or just of the genre only?

Tropico, yes thanks for reminding me... :Puke:

Railroad Tycoon II? Hmm...maybe I hadn't played it enough to notice. Usually, I like sticking to sandbox mode (built-in or modded in) in most of my gameplay. Architects/Planners don't like constraints afterall...

I kinda liked the prequals. The dialog and acting were no worse than the original three.. nostaglia has clouded our minds. I think AotC is the second best film of the series so far (definetly if you cut the love scenes out... but I guess you have to build that), and TPM is no worse than RotJ (which was only saved by the kick ass battle at the end).

My pick: Austin Powers 2 + 3. They had MORE than enough material from Bond movies so that 2 + 3 didn't seem tired, boring, and stale, yet they did.
