But the Confederacy did not last for centuries, nor is it responsible for the deaths of millions, or I suspect any significant number of slaves.
The Confederacy is a stand in for slavery in general... especially in the history of the South.

I mean, if I just said "slavery" well, that's been going on pretty much forever. So it's beyond just the last 1000 yrs. Even within those 1000yrs, however, it's gotta rank in the top few.
Genocide... well, I'm sure that too goes back beyond 1003AD, but we've gotten better at it over time, reaching its most horrible in the 20th century. Probably the absolute worst we've got, but then again, it could be viewed as a derivative of...
you should stop being the one hoovering and be the one receiving for once.
the braves thing has got to be number 1.
number 2 would be the fact that the braves just can't seem to get it together after twelve years of being the best team in the NL East. ****ers.
number 3 would be the japanese occupation of korea.
number 4 would be the burning of atlanta by sherman.
The burning of Atlanta was probably a good thing back then

actually, i have to admit, chicago's great fire did wonders for the city. now, sherman going and burning atlanta, well, that resulted in the big mess you see today of the "city" that is atlanta. that's why it's an atrocity.
the other side of the atrocity is that they missed scarlett o'hara and that brett whatever, too. i'm so sick of that goddamned story.
Kinda suprised about the list so far, I'd have put Communism 1st(reason being NK is STILL slaughtering its people under the guise of it), slavery second(considering that it is STILL occuring in certain countries, one of which is on the UNHRC). Then we work our way down with number of people killed in the past.
