I'm all for getting evil dictators and spreading Democracy. But while the right propagates that America is a liberator, we shake hands with the Stalinist Chinese.
And it's not like we're going after OTHER dictators. The only reason we are in Iraq is oil. Sorry, but that's the truth. There are dozens of other dictators and oppressive governments out there. But the US only goes after the one that has enormous economic incentives.
I just want people to be honest and to not live in denial. If you want to liberate the world, fine... I'll support that. We'd have to militarize the country and go to war with the rest of the world that isn't free... but hey, at least we'd be consistent and honest.
Getting Saddam for the reasons the Bush admin pushed was dishonest and hypocritical. That's MY point.
The whole "12 years of sanctions" argument is just tiresome. Getting Saddam was a noble cause, but it wasn't worth the hundreds of billions and cost in human lives that this will end up costing. Saddam could have been gotten for a lot less money and a lot less lives by slowly choking him... and then going in WITH THE SUPPORT OF the rest of our allies.
The fact that this Bush couldn't muster the support that his father did is a testament to his failure as a president and why he needs to go. I am not one of these peaceniks that was against the war at all costs. I'm a very pragmatic individual and I believe that we should not have gone in until the rest of the world says so.
Do I believe America has generally good motives? Sure. But so does the rest of the free-world. And again, it's a testament to Bush's FAILURE as a president that he couldn't get the rest of the free world to help us.
Coalition of the willing? Pffft... yeah I'm glad we had Nazi collaborators like Bulgaria, Lithuania and Latvia... or other oppressive countries like Uzbekistan helping us. This was a coalition of the bribed, the intimidated, and the sucking up... or in Britain's case... a coalition of the puppets.
Anyways, enough of this. I'm going to watch football.
