Don't fall for it, they are sucking you into a trap .

Yeah, that's true. I remember the smallness of the meals over in Europe.
But I thought Australia had decently sized portions as well?
Anyway, get a medium size. Child size is just tiny .

I can eat a couple entree size meals (at most places, some places provide huge ammounts)

GENERATION 35: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
Some meals aren't meant to be finished. That's why you have doggy bags. Not having enough for dinner is a greater sin.
Btw, I nearly starved in Europe. It was much better in Italy than Germany, though. Maybe because I was always jacked on their espresso. The Czechs know how to lay out a good spread.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Yes well its actually the bars part which is most important to me because I am a bit of barfly, especially when travelling.
I'm talking about quiet respectable drinking establishments near the hotel, the kind with booths and say a TV above the bar playing sports, not hot throbbing places full of loose women and druggies where the drinks cost an arm and a leg.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..
Here's a map of your zone of operations. The star marks the embassy (well the star is catecorner to where it should be, but...).

Off the map to the north, but a very short cab ride away is Adams Morgan that has a strip of bars and restaurants. It has something for everybody. You can just walk along the strip and see what you like. Restaurant and bar district feel.
2 blocks north from the embassy on 17th street is a strip of bars and restaurants. Mostly gay. Neighborhoodish feel.
To the West of the embassy is DuPont Circle. Lots of bars and restaurants. Some are gay. Mix of professional and neighborhoodish.
South and Southwest of the embassy are a lot of hotel bars. Every hotel has one in any event. Professional and travelers.
Northeast and east of the embassy can get sketchy after about 13th street. Not much up there anyway.
Southeast of the embassy is an odd assortment. Chinatown is about 7 blocks away. Some professional. Some entertainment district. Some the convention crowd.
I'll think up some specific suggestions on bars.

Which areas do I need to avoid to stop from getting shot?
