Ehh, but humans ARE rational creatures. In fact, our rationality, our ability to reason and use logic, is one of the only thing that seperates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.
True, but at the same time, humans often do irrational things.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
      G'Kar - from Babylon 5 episode "Z'ha'dum"

You mean one of the things we like to pretend seperates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Reason isn't much help for ends, but is well-suited for the means to those ends.

Yes. Having said that, I agree ignoring them may lead to a meaningless life of hedonism, simply doing whatever you please with no concerns over the consequences ...God, wouldnt that be terrible?

Why does the SETI project exist?
Because STI is doomed to fail.

Yes, they are overrated (although they might be useful)
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Its all about balance. In terms of solving problems, you can't beat logic. In terms of a world view, you need logic, rationality as the tools to your own personal disposition for which love and emotion are probably major contributors. That is the human condition which requires love. Philosophy can get by with mere logic and reason, though I believe that reaches a stage where it necessitates emotion too, which is my main area of interest.

Hey -- I'm not surprised that PA wants to question the value of rationality and reason.
