the fire went by where i am but didn't come over the hill. it more or less ran paraellel to us. We're waiting to see if the Santa Anna's turn it around. It's pretty shocking to see all the homes going up in flames one by one on the tv. And driving to work tomorrow is going to be a *****..especially if the 52 is closed.
DM: Everything from the 56 to the 52 is closed and the mayor has officially asked all businesses to stay closed tomorrow so that the roads can be used by evacuies and by emergency services. So it looks like you won't have to worry about going to work.
Everyone: The fire got to with in 70 yards of my house and then the winds changed and my house was spared. Many of my neighbors houses were lost though and one house across the street and five houses down was burned nearly to the ground. Scripps Ranch is known for the large forest of Eucolyptus trees which cover nearly the entire area (most of the trees were planted before WW1 so they are very mature), however, many if not most of these trees have been burned. The MCAS Miramar (where the movie Top Gun was filmed; it's 2 miles away from my house) suffered major fire damage. Many of the aircraft hangers were destroyed and one of the large tanks which the military uses to store jet fuel blow up!
So far 150 homes in Scripps Ranch have been burned (Scripps is a very small close knit community so that is alot of homes) and 12 people have died. All in all this fire has burned more then 100,000 acre plus there are three other major fires burning in the county. Two where caused by arsonists and one was caused by campers who didn't put out their camp fire properly.
Officially I'm not supposed to be in my house. Officially this is an evacuated area and the cops are blocking all of the main roads to prevent people from returning to their homes or to move their possessions. The cops haven't lived here for 25 year like I have though. So I know many ways to bipass their road blocks.

Let's hope your house will continue to be spared. Is there no inflamable material left in the surroundings?

Yep. They're evacuating people to Miramesa High School, IIRC
That's my old High School. They've turned it into some sort of refugee camp for people whos' homes have burned down.
My sometimes girlfriend (last week my ex but this week my girlfirend) just moved out of Tierra Santa last week to her new place in Little Italy. Right now much of Tierra Santa is on fire plus the fire is spreading to Clairmonte Mesa, Kerney Mesa, and possible Peniquitos.

That looks like a frckin' ****-astrophe.
Is it possible that power could go out in South Cal? (Noticing that most of them aren't online )
The photo Dis posted was of a pair of dual 230 kV lines, but with the loads being what they are (not bad overall), most areas will not lose power, as the downed lines can be isolated. It's mostly smaller mountain communities that are losing power, because there are no alternate transmission paths. The main metropolitan areas are served with quite a lot of redundancy, as long as overall demand is moderate.

The main fire break was a road. The fire fighters made a stand on one side of the road and the other side burned. My house was on the safe side but many homes were on the other side.
There are still a great many Eucalyptus trees on my side though so if hot ash lights a fire on this side of the road my house could quickly become toast.
We have are sprinklers on and all of the neighbors have been spraying water on each others' roof tops. Luckily, my house has a Spanish style tile roof instead of the old fashioned shaker style wood shingles so it will be hard to burn.

yes I-15 is shut down.
I15 is closed as is I8. I15 runs from San Diego to Las Vegas while I8 runs from San Diego to Texas. I5 (running between San Diego and Seattle) is still open and fairly clear. I10 runs from LA east.
To get back from my sister's house in Temecula (where I dropped my mom and her dog off at) I had to take I15 to the 56 where the CHP closed the freeway then I took the back roads through PQ into Mira Mesa and then cut over into Scripps. The coppers had road blocks set up but if you know where to look there are dirt roads which ranchers still maintain which the police didn't block and there are several paved roads which go through business parks which the cops don't seem to know about.
