What's a commie like me doing on WinMX with all the right wing nutjobs ?

      I'm on MX too.
I stopped using kazaa(lite) because my ISP seems to partially block it (=very slow) and because MX offers better file integrity though slightly less choice.

i left kazaa once it incorporated spyware, because roughly around that time, it began to eat up so many resources that it wasn't worth running.

winmx doesn't have much in the way of asian pop.

Of course, they don't want to know that other people are actually wasting their bandwidth for other people on the Internet, and that it is the only way for a P2P program to work.

eh, not quite. i share a small folder and the download folder--and keep the big library folder out of reach.

not because of bandwidth--i already have that set at a limit. it's because it'll eat into my clock cycles, them having to search through all 21gb of my mp3s.

I hope one day P2P programs will be able to create a few bytes big file that lists shared files. It is my main beef with WinMX too: everybody loses humongous time looking for files because there is no WinMX-generated file summing up what you have

leaching has little to do with how much you share, it's about how much bandwidth you devote to uploading in comparison to how much you download.

Not really, because then you can't download much either. That's why i said in comparison, someone who's downloading at 60kb/sec and has uploading capped at 10kb/sec, for instance.

maybe i should give it a shot again, then. when i tried mx a while back, a year ago or so, i couldn't find anything. could be the romanization problem...

I use P2P mostly for TV shows and sometimes for movies, hardly for music or software (anymore).

I don't get why eDonkey/eMule is so popular. I agree the technology is superior to Kazaa, but the download speeds suck. I rarely get more than 20 kb/s, while on Kazaa (Lite) I regularly get over 100 kb/s, sometimes even as much as ~400 kb/s. It usually takes me weeks to download a movie with eMule, and only a few days to get that same movie with Kazaa (though Kazaa does tend to have a lot more fakes).

Must be my location in the network...

yea, it can take a while to get files on eDonkey sometimes. It isn't what it used to be, it's gotten bogged down with leachers and 90% of the people on it have their upload capped at 10.

diet KaZaA for me. I tried eDonkey and never found anything I wanted. I tried WinMX and never found anything at all. It just wasted cycles doing nothing. I tried Limewire, and never got anything worth having. Wasn't very impressed with eDonkey.

These days I just keep KaZaA closed unless I want to dowload. Even so, far more stuff is downloaded from me than I get.
